Clarkwell & Co is a growing firm of Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Advisers based in London. We provide accountancy, taxation, VAT, payroll, bookkeeping and business advisory services to a diverse portfolio of UK limited companies, landlords, sole traders and individuals.
About the Role
As our practice continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / Practice Manager to join our London office.
This is a senior, hands-on position with a strong focus on practice management, client relationships, team supervision and the smooth day-to-day running of the firm. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director and will play an important role in coordinating our London operations and supervising our overseas accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the work of our overseas accounting and bookkeeping team.
- Allocate client assignments and monitor workloads, deadlines and job progress.
- Review accounts, Corporation Tax Returns, Self Assessment Tax Returns, VAT Returns and other compliance work prepared by the team.
- Ensure work is completed accurately, professionally and within HM Revenue & Customs and Companies House deadlines.
- Hold regular meetings with the overseas team and provide clear instructions, technical guidance and feedback.
- Act as a senior point of contact for clients and maintain strong, professional client relationships.
- Conduct client meetings for accounts reviews, tax planning, onboarding and general business matters.
- Explain accounting and taxation matters to clients in clear and practical language.
- Monitor outstanding client information, queries, approvals and filing deadlines.
- Ensure the firm's workflow and practice management systems are kept accurate and up to date.
- Oversee new client onboarding, professional clearance and compliance procedures.
- Support anti-money laundering and client due diligence requirements.
- Resolve day-to-day client and operational issues and escalate significant matters to the Director where appropriate.
- Support, mentor and develop junior accountants and members of the overseas team.
- Help improve internal systems, workflows and working procedures as the practice continues to grow.
- Work closely with the Director to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the practice and consistently high standards of client service.

Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for someone with at least 5 years of recent experience within a UK accountancy practice, ideally including experience as a Senior Accountant, Accounts Manager or Practice Manager.
The successful candidate should have:
- Strong knowledge of UK statutory accounts, Corporation Tax, Self Assessment, VAT and Companies House compliance.
- Previous experience supervising or managing accountants, bookkeepers or an overseas team.
- Strong client management and communication skills.
- Confidence conducting face-to-face and online client meetings.
- Excellent organisational and workflow management skills.
- The ability to manage multiple clients, staff members and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- A proactive approach with the ability to take ownership of problems and see matters through to completion.

Preferred Qualifications:
- ACCA, ACA, CTA, ATT, AAT or equivalent professional qualification or part-qualification.
- Experience with software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, TaxCalc and BrightPay.

This is a full-time, office-based position at our Islington, London office, Monday to Friday. Are you able and willing to work from the office on a full-time basis?
