Description

As a Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality accounting and advisory services to our diverse client portfolio. This position demands an approachable and professional individual who understands client requirements and delivers exceptional service. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to manage multiple client accounts effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Manage a portfolio of owner-managed businesses, limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, building trusted and long-lasting relationships.
  • Provide proactive advice and support on accounting, financial, and business matters.
  • Identify opportunities to add value and introduce additional services where appropriate.
  • Liaise with HMRC and other third parties on behalf of clients when required.

Accounts Production & Compliance

  • Prepare and review statutory accounts for a range of business entities.
  • Prepare and review corporation tax returns and liaise with the tax team where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate working papers and supporting documentation.
  • Manage assignments efficiently to ensure deadlines are met.

Working with the Bookkeeping Team

  • Work collaboratively with the bookkeeping team to ensure client records are accurate and complete.
  • Review bookkeeping information and resolve queries efficiently.
  • Support the transition of clients to cloud accounting solutions where appropriate.
  • Assist in improving processes and efficiencies between bookkeeping and accounts production functions.

Cloud Accounting & Client Support

  • Support clients using Xero, our primary bookkeeping platform.
  • Provide guidance and training to clients on Xero where required.
  • Review bookkeeping records maintained on Xero and other accounting systems.
  • Work with a small number of clients using Sage 50 Accounts.

Team Development

  • Review work completed by junior staff and provide coaching and support.
  • Assist with workflow management and meeting departmental deadlines.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of practice processes and standards.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practice with colleagues.

Key Requirements

  • Part-qualified and working towards completion or newly qualified ACA/ACCA.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working within an accountancy practice and managing clients.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts for SMEs, limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.
  • Experience managing client relationships and acting as a primary point of contact.
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud accounting software, particularly Xero.
  • Experience working alongside bookkeeping teams and reviewing bookkeeping records.
  • Good understanding of corporation tax and general compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering excellent client service.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience using CCH Accounts Production, CCH Corporation Tax, or similar accounts production and tax software.
  • Experience using Sage 50 Accounts.
  • Experience reviewing junior staff work and providing coaching and support.
  • Experience preparing management accounts and providing business advisory support.
  • Progression towards ACA or ACCA qualification.
  • Knowledge of cloud accounting app integrations and digital accounting processes.
