Helston, Cornwall | £50,000 per annum | Permanent, Full-time

Are you an experienced accountant looking for a role where you can combine technical accountancy, client management and team leadership?

We’re working with a growing accountancy practice in Helston, Cornwall, who are looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant to join their team. This is a varied role offering genuine responsibility, with the opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio of clients while also supporting and mentoring the wider team.

The Role

You’ll play a key part in the day-to-day running of the practice, building strong relationships with clients while taking responsibility for their accounting and tax requirements.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact
  • Welcoming and onboarding new clients, including supporting them with the firm's online portal
  • Preparing Self Assessments, VAT Returns and Corporation Tax returns
  • Preparing and finalising statutory accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders
  • Producing management accounts
  • Managing payroll and CIS
  • Liaising with clients and HMRC and ensuring client information is accurate and complete
  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional value and services to clients
  • Leading client tax review meetings
  • Reviewing client contracts and helping to identify areas for improvement
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation and money laundering requirements
  • Managing, mentoring and reviewing the work of junior members of the team
  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the office, including systems, processes and workflow
  • Working closely with the Directors on practice management, deadlines and planning

About You

We’re looking for an experienced accountant who is confident working independently, managing client relationships and taking ownership of their workload.

You’ll Ideally Have

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification
  • At least 5 years' accountancy practice experience
  • Strong technical knowledge across accounts preparation, tax and VAT
  • Experience managing clients and ideally supervising or mentoring junior staff
  • Good knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A highly organised and methodical approach
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • A proactive, commercial approach and a genuine interest in helping clients
