MEC is a multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy, delivering services for private and public sector projects across residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education and healthcare. Operating nationally from offices in Leicestershire, Birmingham, Brighton, London and Nottingham, we provide expert guidance for a wide range of clients.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Acoustic Consultant to join our growing Acoustic team based in our Leicestershire office, we would also consider candidates based in our Birmingham or Nottingham Offices.
In this role, you'll work on a wide variety of residential, commercial, infrastructure and public sector projects, delivering high-quality acoustic consultancy services from initial assessments through to planning support, detailed design and project completion.
You'll be responsible for producing technically accurate reports and assessments, managing projects within agreed timescales and budgets, and collaborating with clients, regulators and multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, commercially focused solutions. The role also includes site visits, mentoring junior team members, supporting business development activities and contributing to the continual improvement of technical standards and processes.
Key role responsibilities:
- As a Senior Acoustic Consultant, you'll work on a broad range of projects, taking responsibility for delivering technically robust acoustic solutions, managing project requirements and collaborating with clients and colleagues to achieve successful outcomes.
- Assist the Associate and principal with the continued growth and development of the Acoustic team.
- Attend meetings with clients, project teams, other disciplines and relevant third parties.
- Deliver high levels of client service, helping to secure repeat business and future opportunities.
- Undertake environmental noise, vibration and building acoustics assessments across a range of sectors.
- Carry out site surveys, noise monitoring, sound insulation testing and data analysis where required.
- Produce high-quality technical reports, calculations and supporting documentation within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Prepare acoustic models using CadnaA, SoundPLAN or similar software.
- Ensure technical work is completed in accordance with company quality assurance procedures and checking processes.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across MEC's multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Mentor and support graduate and junior consultants, helping to develop their technical knowledge and professional skills.
- Assist with business development activities, fee proposals and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and industry best practice, contributing to the continual improvement of technical standards and procedures.
- Attend site visits, client meetings and networking events as required.

Project Management Responsibilities:
- Manage acoustic projects across a range of sectors, ensuring delivery to agreed programmes and budgets.
- Effectively manage project administration, client liaison, programme delivery and resource requirements.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, obtaining feedback and identifying opportunities for repeat business.
- Support project financial management, including fee proposals, Work in Progress (WIP) management and invoicing where appropriate.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Acoustics, Physics, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable consultancy experience within environmental and/or building acoustics.
- Membership of the Institute of Acoustics (or working towards professional membership).
- Strong understanding of current legislation, British Standards and industry best practice, including BS4142, BS8233, ProPG and Approved Document O.
- Experience using acoustic modelling software such as CadnaA, SoundPLAN or equivalent.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in report writing and client liaison.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members.
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills:
- Building Acoustics testing experience (UKAS/SITMA) and knowledge of Approved Document E.
- Experience delivering BREEAM acoustic assessments.
