The opportunity:
- You will join a team of 33 actuarial professionals providing support to Markel's International organisation across multiple geographical locations.
- While the team is primarily based in London, it operates flexibly across remote and office locations and works closely with colleagues across the business, including teams in the US and other global offices.
- We travel as required, particularly for office visits and conferences (both internally and externally).
We are seeking a skilled Senior Actuarial Analyst to join a growing actuarial group assisting the UK business. This is a broad and highly visible role offering ownership of actuarial analysis across a diverse portfolio of products, including Professional Indemnity, Property, Social Care, and specialist Legal Expenses lines. Working closely with senior team members, you will have a key role in quarterly reserving activities. You will also support pricing initiatives and wider business projects. The role offers significant exposure to a varied and evolving book of business, making it an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded actuary looking to broaden their technical expertise, influence decision-making, and accelerate their career development within a collaborative team environment.

What you’ll be doing:
- Provide strong technical and operational support to the product team supporting the Specialty and UK underwriting division.
- Maintain strong relations with the underwriting teams within the UK division, with key responsibilities in pricing and reserving activities. This will include large account pricing, pricing tool validation and reserving, as well as planning and capital model parameterisation.
- Own various core processes to produce deliverables for external purposes.
- Provide assistance to the wider Markel International Actuarial team.
Our must-haves:
- Ability to engage senior stakeholders and form effective relationships with stakeholders, including Finance, Underwriting, Capital etc.
- Ability to work well within a team, including prioritising your workload and supporting the team when needed.
- Be proficient in a wider variety of actuarial subject areas relating to both pricing and reserving fields.
- Have experience of engaging with senior underwriters in delivering results, running technical projects to produce analyses for portfolio management and presenting at formal meetings with senior management.
- Have experience in the actuarial elements of business planning and parameterisation of underwriting and reserve risk.
- Be present in the London office at least two days a week and be prepared to visit UK offices up to a few times a year.
