Senior Actuarial Insurance Risk Manager – Salary circa £85,000

Location: Bristol / York / Sheffield / Norwich / Perth

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Actuarial Insurance Risk Manager to join our team. This role would be perfect for a highly motivated and technically astute General Insurance expert to join a varied, agile and visible team in driving and influencing the appropriate understanding and management of risks and opportunities across the insurance risk foundations within Aviva Insurance Limited’s (AIL) UK general insurance entity. Familiarity with GI insurance markets would be preferable but isn’t essential for this role.

A bit about the job:

You will be responsible for reviewing, challenging and catalysing improvements to the management and optimisation of insurance risk within AIL, with focus on one or more specialisms across pricing, reserving, exposure management, reinsurance, capital management or model risk. Reporting into the Head of Insurance risk, you will work closely with the AIL Chief Risk Officer, AIL Enterprise Risk Director, and the UKGI Risk business partners and will regularly engage with other key stakeholders across the Actuarial Function, Claims, Pricing & Underwriting. Providing an objective Risk view of insurance risks through developing risk opinions and leading risk deep dives is a key aspect of this role.

This role ultimately supports AIL’s Chief Risk Officer to provide oversight across AIL, ensuring the continuing effectiveness of the Risk Management Framework.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
