Team - Reinsurance - Life

Working Pattern - Hybrid - 2 days per week in the Vitality London Office. Full time, 37.5 hours per week.

What this role is all about:

We’re looking for a Senior Actuarial Manager to lead the management of Life reinsurance arrangements and partner relationships across Vitality Life. This is a senior actuarial leadership role responsible for securing commercially effective reinsurance solutions that support strategic business objectives, including Shared Value Insurance, while ensuring arrangements are implemented, governed and administered effectively. The role will provide expert actuarial insight, influence senior decision-making and lead a high-performing team within a complex insurance environment.

Key Actions

  • Lead the management, development and ongoing optimisation of Life reinsurance arrangements to support Vitality Life’s strategic and commercial objectives
  • Build effective relationships with reinsurance partners, ensuring agreed arrangements are implemented, administered and governed to the required standard
  • Apply expert judgement and actuarial knowledge to review complex data, challenge model outputs and develop innovative solutions to business problems
  • Challenge actuarial assumptions and methodologies, ensuring recommendations are supported by robust rationale and appropriate technical evidence
  • Assess and clearly communicate the risks, opportunities and commercial implications associated with proposed actuarial and reinsurance solutions
  • Advise and present to senior management, providing clear actuarial insight that informs strategic planning and business decision-making
  • Anticipate future business requirements and identify opportunities to strengthen reinsurance arrangements, actuarial processes and operational effectiveness
  • Set technical and professional standards across the team, acting as a trusted point of reference and sharing specialist actuarial expertise
  • Coach and develop Actuaries, Actuarial Specialists and Managers by identifying capability gaps and creating meaningful learning opportunities
  • Lead project teams and contribute to functional strategy, continuous improvement and the development of an engaged, high-performing team

What do you need to thrive?

  • Fellowship of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or an equivalent professional qualification, or significant specialist actuarial expertise developed over many years
  • Substantial actuarial experience with the ability to operate independently and provide direction within a complex business environment
  • Strong understanding of the Life reinsurance market and the management of reinsurance arrangements
  • Experience within financial services, ideally within Life insurance
  • Proven ability to challenge assumptions, assess complex risks and provide robust, commercially informed recommendations
  • Experience presenting technical information and influencing senior management and external stakeholders
  • Strong leadership capability with experience coaching, developing and setting standards for actuarial professionals
  • Knowledge of Prophet and actuarial modelling within Life insurance
  • Knowledge of SQL, including writing and editing complex queries to extract and process data
  • Knowledge of Python data-processing libraries and advanced reporting or visualisation tools such as Power BI
