Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Actuary to join our UK Specialty and UK & International Actuarial team in London. This is a newly created role reflecting the continued growth of the business, increasing client demand, and the expanding scope of actuarial support required across both Specialty and Reinsurance. The role will play a critical part in strengthening the actuarial capability of the team, providing senior technical expertise, supporting governance and peer review requirements, and helping to develop the next generation of actuarial talent within BMS.

As a senior member of the Analytics function, you will work closely with brokers, clients, catastrophe analysts, and senior stakeholders to provide actuarial insight across a broad range of portfolios and transactions. The role combines technical excellence with strong stakeholder engagement and offers the opportunity to influence strategic initiatives, enhance analytical capabilities, and contribute to the long-term growth of the business.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver actuarial analyses that support programme design, retention selection and limit optimisation across insurance and reinsurance placements across Specialty and International business lines.
  • Provide and deliver high-quality actuarial input into both renewal business and new business opportunities in a timely manner. Help to sustain client delivery, manage increased demand, and strengthen technical governance effectively.
  • Contribute to client pitches, request for proposal (RFPs) and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Act as a senior technical resource within the actuarial team, providing guidance, challenge, and expert judgement on complex assignments.
  • Perform peer review of actuarial analyses and modelling outputs to ensure technical quality and robustness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Present actuarial findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support client meetings and business development activities, acting as a trusted actuarial adviser.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the development of trainee and junior actuaries.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer across the team and contribute to building long-term actuarial capability.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives supporting the growth and development of the Analytics function.
  • Support the ongoing development of actuarial standards, methodologies, and best practices in the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
