Who are we?

We’re Standard Life, a retirement specialist focused entirely on retirement savings and income. We champion the belief that everyone’s journey to and through retirement can be better, and for more than 200 years, we’ve been helping our customers plan and prepare for their financial futures.

Life today is increasingly complicated, uncertain and unpredictable. People move through different careers, face unexpected moments and navigate important choices. We offer our colleagues flexibility, trust and benefits that work for whatever life brings. In return we expect curiosity, connection, accountability and high standards. We make room for what matters - so you can bring your best, every day.

We are looking for an experienced financial risk professional with strong technical expertise and the confidence to apply that expertise to complex, strategic balance sheet issues. The successful candidate will be able to operate comfortably across both the detail and the bigger picture, understanding the technical drivers of solvency, liquidity, ALM and balance sheet performance, while also drawing out the key risks, trade-offs and strategic implications for senior stakeholders. They will bring clear judgement, constructive challenge and a commercial mindset, helping the business make well-informed decisions that balance financial resilience, risk appetite and long-term value.

Purpose of the role

The Senior Financial Risk Actuary is a member of the Balance Sheet & ALM Oversight team.

The key purpose of the role is to provide strategic advice, constructive challenge and effective Line 2 oversight in relation to the Group’s balance sheets and delivery of the company’s long-term financial strategy. Working closely across the Financial Risk Team and the business, the role holder will help ensure the Group develops and implements effective strategies for managing and mitigating financial risks, supported by an appropriate risk management framework, clearly defined risk appetite and an effective, efficient oversight model.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
