About Us

Odqa is a breakthrough company in solar thermal energy generation, spun out of the University of Oxford and co-founded by jet engine pioneer Prof. Peter Ireland. The company develops systems that replace fossil fuels with clean heat, achieving up to 800 °C in real-world applications. Team members work at the intersection of advanced thermofluids, renewable energy, and industrial-scale deployment, contributing directly to climate solutions. The organization values innovation, rigorous engineering, and practical impact in the field.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity to work on a transformative renewable energy technology. Within the performance team you’ll develop trusted aerothermal models, support validation and technology demonstration programmes, and work integrally with the engineering team to deliver the lowest Levelised Cost of Heat (LCOH) power plant solutions. At Odqa, you'll also have the unique opportunity to work alongside Professor Peter Ireland FREng and the Oxford Thermofluids Institute, from which Odqa's technology was founded.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop low order aerothermal models (MATLAB/Python) for CST power plants and their constituent subsystems, with heavy focus on receiver technology.
  • Perform subsystem and system level performance trade studies of CST plants, interfacing with mechanical design and technoeconomic modelling, to optimize designs for the lowest LCOH.
  • Build, run and interpret CFD simulations (ANSYS) of convective, radiative and conjugate heat transfer for receiver geometries and other system components, and perform low-order model verification.
  • Design and plan experiments for model validation (define methodology, instrumentation, test matrices and post processing) with clear quantification of uncertainty.
  • Work together with mechanical, materials and stress engineers to optimise the performance and durability of CST receivers.
  • Clearly document methods, assumptions, and results for internal review and client-facing reporting.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
