Senior Agriculture & Rural Property Lawyer | Newcastle

Senior Associate / Legal Director / Partner | Established Rural Practice | Leadership Opportunity

Are you an experienced Agriculture or Rural Property lawyer looking for an opportunity to take greater ownership of a practice, develop an established client base and play a meaningful role in shaping its future?

Lex Exec is working with a highly regarded independent law firm in the North East on a senior appointment within its established Agriculture & Rural Services practice.

This is a particularly interesting opportunity for an experienced Legal Director, Salaried Partner or ambitious Senior Associate who has developed strong technical expertise and client relationships, but would welcome the chance to take on a more influential leadership role.

Rather than having to build a rural practice from scratch, you would be joining a firm with an existing reputation, established client relationships and a platform for further growth.

The Practice

The firm advises farming businesses, agricultural landowners, rural estates and private clients across the North East and the UK.

The work spans a broad range of agricultural and rural property matters, including:

  • Agricultural land and farm acquisitions and disposals
  • Farm Business Tenancies and Agricultural Holdings Act tenancies
  • Landed estates and rural property management
  • Agricultural succession and farming business reorganisations
  • Strategic land, development and diversification projects
  • Renewable energy and landowner agreements
  • Easements, rights of way and other complex rural property matters

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The practice also benefits from close collaboration with colleagues advising on Private Client, Tax, Property and wider commercial matters.

The Opportunity

The appointment offers the opportunity to take a leading role within an established rural practice, with responsibility for developing client relationships, supporting junior lawyers and helping shape the team's longer-term direction.

For someone currently operating at Legal Director or Salaried Partner level, it offers an opportunity to take greater ownership of a specialist practice.

Equally, we would welcome conversations with experienced Senior Associates who have the technical capability, commercial judgement and ambition to take a significant step forward in their careers.

The emphasis is on finding the right individual with the expertise and potential to develop the practice over the longer term.

About You

We would be interested in speaking with lawyers who can demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience in Agriculture, Rural Property or Landed Estates
  • Strong technical knowledge of agricultural property transactions and rural land matters
  • Experience advising farming businesses, landowners and rural estates
  • The ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships
  • Sound commercial judgement and an interest in business development
  • The ambition and credibility to take on a senior leadership position

Previous management experience would be valuable, although an established leadership title is not essential if you can demonstrate the capability and ambition to step up.

Considering a Move to the North East?

This opportunity may also appeal to lawyers currently working in London, Yorkshire, Scotland or elsewhere who have personal or professional connections to the North East.

For someone considering a return to the region, it offers the chance to continue undertaking sophisticated rural property work while building a long-term career within an established regional practice.

We would be pleased to explore location and working arrangements on an individual basis.
