Role Overview

MUFG is seeking a Senior Artificial Intelligence Engineer for its Global Markets Engineering Office (GMEO) Centre of Excellence in London. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a world-leading financial institution at the forefront of responsible AI adoption, where your expertise will directly shape enterprise-grade solutions across global markets. You will be part of a specialist team that sets the standards, controls, and enablement models for applied AI, moving the organisation from experimentation to operational excellence.

MUFG offers a supportive and inclusive environment, with access to cutting-edge technology platforms, collaborative networks, and opportunities for professional growth. The Centre of Excellence empowers you to work alongside diverse stakeholders—Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Operations, and Front Office—ensuring safe, auditable, and resilient AI delivery. If you are passionate about advancing AI in regulated environments and thrive on communal achievement, this role provides the platform to make a lasting impact.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Artificial Intelligence Engineer – Centre of Excellence at MUFG in London, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of applied AI across global financial markets. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve:

  • Leading the engineering design and delivery of high-risk, cross-functional enterprise AI capabilities for Global Markets outside Japan, ensuring all solutions meet rigorous architecture, security, governance, and operational standards.
  • Defining, maintaining, and continuously improving engineering standards, reusable patterns, control requirements, and reference architectures for responsible AI adoption within Global Markets.
  • Owning or supporting technical governance processes including intake management, risk classification, lane routing, architecture review, threat modelling, model evaluation, release approval, and production monitoring.
  • Building reusable platform components such as retrieval-augmented generation frameworks (RAG), agentic workflow patterns, connector templates, evaluation harnesses, audit trails, and deployment packs.
  • Partnering with function-aligned engineers to review designs, resolve engineering challenges collaboratively, promote reuse of components, and ensure local solutions remain aligned with Centre of Excellence standards.
  • Enabling citizen-led delivery by providing safe templates, guardrails, training materials, certification processes, and controlled runtime patterns for distributed teams.
  • Maintaining a high-quality inventory of production AI solutions with clear ownership documentation, data lineage tracking, access control protocols, and robust monitoring systems.
  • Designing integrations between AI platforms and enterprise tools/data sources—including entitlement controls, DLP mechanisms, audit logging features, and operational resilience requirements.
  • Engaging regularly with Technology, Cybersecurity, Risk Management, Compliance, Legal Affairs, Finance Operations, and Front Office stakeholders to ensure all AI adoption is safe, supportable, and aligned with regulatory obligations.
  • Ensuring every AI-enabled solution includes human oversight mechanisms such as explainability features, validation/testing routines, exception handling procedures, and evidence capture proportional to risk.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
