Senior AI Engineer
Permanent | London | Hybrid, 2 days onsite
The Role
Our client is looking for a Senior AI Engineer to help take AI and machine learning solutions from prototype through to scalable, production ready systems.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on Generative AI and agentic systems, building the APIs, integrations and workflows required to deploy LLM powered applications reliably at scale.
You will work closely with Data Science, Engineering and DevOps teams, while helping establish best practice around production AI.
Key Responsibilities
- Build scalable Python APIs and backend services for AI and ML applications
- Develop and productionise GenAI and agentic AI systems
- Integrate LLMs with tools, APIs, data sources and business workflows
- Take AI solutions from prototype through to live production
- Improve reliability, scalability, testing, monitoring and performance
- Work closely with Engineering, DevOps and Infrastructure teams
- Provide technical guidance, code reviews and mentoring

What We’re Looking For
- Strong commercial Python engineering experience
- Backend and API development experience, ideally FastAPI
- Commercial experience working with AWS
- Strong knowledge of Docker, GitHub and CI/CD
- Solid software engineering fundamentals including testing, clean code and version control
- Experience deploying complex applications into production
- Strong debugging and problem solving skills

Desirable
- Production experience with LLMs, Generative AI and RAG
- Experience building agentic AI systems
- LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen or similar
- MCP and function calling architectures
- MLOps and ML model deployment experience
- LLM evaluation, guardrails and optimisation
