Contract: Senior / Lead AI Software Engineer, Java & Python, 2 positions
Location: London, hybrid with 4 days per week onsite
Duration: 12-month initial contract
Rate: £843.88 to £1,000 per day, PAYE inside IR35

We are recruiting two experienced Senior / Lead AI Software Engineers for a long-term contract with a leading global financial services organisation in London. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building and delivering enterprise-grade AI solutions. You will work across machine learning and generative AI use cases while helping establish AI-led engineering practices that improve software quality, productivity and delivery speed.
Key responsibilities
- Design, prototype and deploy scalable AI and generative AI solutions
- Develop mission-critical enterprise applications using Java and Python
- Translate business challenges into practical, secure and supportable technology solutions
- Apply AI to accelerate software development and improve engineering productivity
- Evaluate modern AI frameworks, tools and enterprise deployment patterns
- Define technical designs, solution options and implementation strategies
- Establish and promote AI engineering standards, methodologies and best practices
- Work closely with business, engineering, architecture, risk and technology stakeholders
- Assess solution feasibility, delivery timelines, technical dependencies and implementation risks
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards, controls and long-term maintainability
- Support continuous improvement, automation and innovation across the engineering lifecycle

Essential experience
- Strong hands-on Java and Python development experience
- Experience developing mission-critical or enterprise-scale applications
- Proven experience designing and delivering AI-based solutions in an enterprise environment
- Practical knowledge of machine learning and generative AI use cases
- Strong understanding of how AI can improve software development and engineering productivity
- Experience translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Strong technical design, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience

Desirable experience
- Experience with modern AI frameworks, tooling and enterprise deployment patterns
- Knowledge of AI governance, controls and responsible AI practices
- Experience within financial services, securities, custody or capital markets
- Previous experience operating at Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer or Technical Lead level
