Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join T. Rowe Price Labs’ AI Engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and deliver production-grade AI systems and help advance how AI products are developed, hardened, and scaled across the firm.
This position is based in our London office, where you will work closely with engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders across the UK and global teams to incubate new AI products, mature them for production, and enable broader adoption through a Build-Operate-Transfer model.
This is a senior hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, building high-quality software, and working with modern AI technologies. You will independently own significant areas of technical delivery, contribute to reusable AI capabilities and engineering best practices, and support other engineers through technical guidance, mentoring, and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy, and evolve production-grade AI agents and intelligent systems within modern cloud-native architectures.
- Own significant components of development across the software lifecycle, working independently to solve complex engineering problems and deliver high-quality technical solutions.
- Apply deep technical expertise to AI engineering problems and serve as a resource for colleagues, contributing to architecture, design, and implementation decisions.
- Support the Build-Operate-Transfer model by incubating new AI products, hardening them for production, and working with business-aligned technology teams to transition proven solutions for long-term ownership and scale.
- Work closely with engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders to translate complex or ambiguous problems into scalable AI solutions that deliver measurable business value.
- Contribute to reusable AI capabilities and shared platform components across areas such as agent orchestration, tool use, retrieval-based systems, evaluation frameworks, observability, and guardrails.
- Champion strong engineering practices through software design, code and design reviews, automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
- Build AI systems with measurable quality, production readiness, operational observability, and appropriate safety controls.
- Be accountable for technical debt within the software and components you own, and actively contribute to improvements in team engineering practices and standards.
- Apply sound engineering judgment when making tactical and strategic trade-offs across functionality, scalability, maintainability, risk, and delivery.
- Mentor and support less-experienced engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, design discussions, and day-to-day collaboration.
- Identify opportunities to apply AI in ways that accelerate workflows, improve decision-making, and create scalable business impact across the firm.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
