We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Air Conditioning Engineer in Rugby
Custom Heat has looked after homes in the Midlands since 1980. We’ve recently become Custom Heat & Cool, and the new name reflects where we’re going: heating and cooling for homes, from the same team people already call about their boiler.
We’re family-run, with around 80 people across four trades, more than 30,000 customers and 4,800 Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.8. Last year we won the HPM Award and the West Midlands Energy Efficiency Award. Most of our work is domestic, and our commercial customers include Red Bull Racing, the Royal Collection Trust and David Lloyd.
More than an engineer’s job
Role
Air conditioning is the part of the business we most want to grow, and we need an experienced engineer to lead it technically. You’ll still spend much of your week on the tools, but the role goes further than that:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
