What You’ll Be Doing

BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Air Quality Consultant to join our growing air quality team.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, with a desire to contribute to a growing team and develop their professional career with BWB. Sitting within our Air Quality team, the successful applicant would be expected to undertake detailed dispersion modelling of road traffic emissions, modelling of point/area/volume emissions for a range of projects including residential, commercial, industrial (i.e., data centres), and transport developments. A good understanding of odour and dust assessments would be beneficial.

The Air Quality team are a rapidly expanding part of BWB’s environmental service offering. We work on a variety of fantastic projects, and the successful candidate would have the opportunity to work on projects from proposal stage right through to completion. You would have involvement at all stages in the planning cycle from feasibility through to master planning, planning application support, discharge of planning conditions and environmental permit support.

Our projects vary in size from small scale through to national infrastructure projects. There is also the opportunity to undertake project management, contribute to the management of project finances, and undertake mentoring and training with more junior team members. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to undertake business development activities and they will be able to have a significant contribution to the direction and growth of our team.

What You’ll Bring

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident, self-motivated, and willing to take the initiative, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to travel and a full driving licence are essential to the role.

The successful candidate will have a relevant science-based air quality or environmental sciences degree and be an Associate or Full member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences and Institute of Air Quality Management. An appropriate masters degree is also highly desirable.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate at least five years of experience in a consultancy setting.

Candidates will be required to show a good understanding and experience in the following areas:

  • The air quality assessment process, as well as the standards and guidelines that are appropriate to our industry.
  • The UK planning and Environmental Permitting process.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment.
  • Air dispersion modelling software including the ADMS-Roads and ADMS 6 software packages and experience in using ArcGIS, QGIS and AutoCAD.
  • Air quality monitoring and the design and management of air quality monitoring strategies.
  • Effective working with design teams, project managers and clients.
  • Project management and good report writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel, a full driving licence and access to a car are essential to the role.
  • Business development and client relationship management experience is desirable.
  • Experience of odour sniff tests, odour modelling, dust monitoring and indoor air quality plans and indoor air quality monitoring are desirable.
  • Experience in air quality policy and supporting local authorities with air quality actions plans and annual status reports are also desirable.
