Job Description

Position: Senior Analyst, Legal Technology and AI Strategy and Ops

Department: Legal Technology Portfolio, Strategy & Ops

Based at: 110 Fetter Lane, London EC4A 1AY

Reports to: Senior Manager, Legal Technology Portfolio, Strategy & Ops

Overview

The Senior Analyst, Legal Technology and AI Strategy and Ops (London) owns a portfolio of the firm’s most strategically significant lawyer-facing applications — from AI research and drafting assistants to document automation, contract analysis, and litigation platforms. Sitting within the Legal Technology Portfolio, Strategy & Ops department, this role is accountable for the full life of a product: evaluating and selecting it, onboarding and configuring it, driving adoption, measuring its impact, and recommending when it should be optimised, consolidated, or retired.

This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who pairs product management discipline with credibility in front of lawyers. You will run end-to-end evaluations and pilots, build the business case, define the metrics that prove value, and serve as the firm’s subject-matter expert for the products you own. You will partner daily with engineering, Information Security, LASER, Procurement, Finance, practice groups, and the Chief AI and Innovation Officer’s (CAIO) office, and will mentor Product Managers on the team.

Main Responsibilities (not exhaustive)

Portfolio & Roadmap

  • Own an assigned portfolio of lawyer-facing legal technology and AI applications end-to-end, including product strategy, roadmap, configuration, integrations, and release management.
  • Conduct structured stakeholder discovery with lawyers, practice group leaders, paralegals, and Legal Technology & Enablement teams to identify unmet needs and translate them into prioritised product requirements.
  • Maintain and prioritise the product backlog, balancing lawyer demand, firm strategy, technical constraints, and vendor roadmaps.
  • Plan and coordinate releases, configuration changes, and upgrades — including communications, training coordination, and post-release validation.
  • Serve as the firm’s internal subject-matter expert for the products you own, including their capabilities, limitations, roadmap, and competitive position.

Product Evaluation, Pilots & Business Case

  • Lead end-to-end evaluations for assigned product categories: vendor research, product demonstrations, reference calls, and comparative analysis against firm requirements.
  • Coordinate Information Security and data-privacy reviews, and work with Procurement on NDAs, MSAs, order forms, and data processing terms.
  • Design and run pilots — defining scope, participants, timelines, success criteria, and feedback mechanisms — and produce a clear, evidence-based recommendation at the end of each.
  • Author the business case for new tools, including cost, expected benefit, adoption assumptions, risks, and the measures that will be used to judge success.
  • Apply and help refine the firm’s global pilot evaluation criteria, ensuring assessments are consistent and defensible across practice groups and offices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Evaluate AI-enabled products against criteria specific to generative and agentic AI, including output quality and accuracy, hallucination and citation risk, model transparency, data handling and training-use terms, confidentiality, and client and regulatory obligations.
  • Design and run structured output-quality testing with lawyer reviewers — building test sets, scoring rubrics, and benchmarks that make AI performance comparable across vendors and over time.
  • Define and maintain configuration standards for AI applications, including permissions, data boundaries and matter-level segregation, retention, prompt libraries, and approved use patterns.
  • Partner with the CAIO’s office, Risk, and Information Security to align AI products with firm policy, client outside counsel guidelines, and responsible-use standards.
  • Track model and feature changes from AI vendors, assess their impact on lawyer workflows and risk posture, and communicate changes to stakeholders.
  • Support lawyer AI enablement in partnership with IS Trainers and Knowledge Management — use-case identification, guidance materials, and practice-specific adoption plays.

Horizon Scanning & Market Intelligence

  • Own horizon scanning for your product categories — tracking emerging technologies, new entrants, incumbent roadmaps, pricing models, and consolidation across the legal AI and legal technology market.
  • Maintain a current point of view on how the products in your portfolio compare to available alternatives, and surface when a category has moved enough to warrant re-evaluation.
  • Gather intelligence from peer firms, alternative legal service providers, industry organisations, conferences, analyst commentary, and vendor user groups, and translate it into implications for the firm’s portfolio.
  • Lead proof-of-concept programmes and structured market assessments in your categories to inform firmwide planning and investment decisions.
  • Build and maintain external relationships with vendors, industry peers, professional organisations, and the broader legal innovation and AI community.
  • Feed market intelligence into the department’s governance cadences and into the firm’s build-versus-buy discussions with LASER and engineering.

Portfolio Governance, Usage & ROI

  • Define and maintain the performance metrics for your products — adoption, engagement, satisfaction, efficiency gains, quality improvements, and business impact — and ensure the underlying data is reliable.
  • Prepare and present product reviews at the department’s portfolio and pilot governance cadences, including usage data, cost, qualitative lawyer feedback, and a recommendation to retain, optimise, consolidate, or retire.
  • Apply the firm’s review triggers and rules, and flag products that are underperforming, redundant, or nearing a decision point.
  • Produce reporting and data-driven recommendations for firm leadership, practice groups, and the CAIO’s office.

Project Management & Engineering Collaboration

  • Lead complex delivery initiatives — application onboarding, platform upgrades, integrations, and firmwide rollouts — on time and aligned to firm priorities.
  • Manage project plans, RAID logs, stakeholder communications, and cross-team dependencies across IS, engineering, and vendor teams.
  • Work with engineering, Information Security, and vendor support to scope and resolve technical issues including integrations, authentication and SSO, entitlements, packaging, performance, and product setup.
  • Partner with LASER and engineering on build-versus-buy assessments, contributing product requirements, market alternatives, and total-cost perspective.

  • Prepare renewal recommendations with usage, cost, and value analysis, and support Procurement, Finance, and Legal in negotiations.
  • Track licensing, entitlements, and consumption against contracted levels, and identify consolidation and cost-optimisation opportunities.

Application Support & Enablement

  • Identify recurring issues and drive root-cause fixes through configuration, vendor escalation, documentation, or training.
  • Work with IS Trainers and Knowledge Management to develop and maintain support documentation, quick reference guides, and enablement materials.

Leadership, Team & Firm Support

  • Mentor junior Analysts on evaluation method, product management practice, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Help build the department’s operating model — standards, templates, and playbooks for evaluation, onboarding, governance, support, and reporting — as a newly formed function matures.
  • Deputise for the Senior Manager in governance forums and stakeholder meetings as needed.
  • Support the broader goals of the Legal Technology & Enablement (LTE) team and the Legal Technology Portfolio, Strategy & Ops department, taking on cross-functional initiatives, firmwide programmes, and ad hoc work as priorities require.
  • Contribute to firmwide legal technology and AI initiatives led by the CAIO’s office, IS Leadership, Knowledge Management, and the Legal Technology & Enablement (LTE) team, bringing product and portfolio expertise to bear.
  • Approach the role with the flexibility and ownership mindset expected in a growing department, where scope will evolve alongside the firm’s technology strategy.

Person Specification

  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree, LLB, or relevant certifications (e.g. PMP, Agile/Scrum, product management) a plus.
  • Typically 7+ years in product management, technology delivery, or IT project management, with meaningful exposure to legal technology in a law firm, in-house legal department, legal technology vendor, or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated ownership of applications through a full lifecycle — evaluation, onboarding, adoption, measurement, and renewal or retirement.
  • Hands-on experience evaluating or managing AI-enabled applications, including an informed view of output quality, data handling, and responsible-use considerations.
  • Working knowledge of the legal technology landscape — for example, AI research and drafting assistants, document management, contract lifecycle management, document automation, eDiscovery, or litigation support.
  • Experience running pilots and building business cases that inform investment decisions, and comfort presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated habit of tracking the legal technology and AI market, and an established network among vendors, peers, and industry organisations.
  • Experience partnering with information security, procurement, and engineering teams through product review and delivery cycles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate between lawyer needs and technical teams.
  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort working with usage and adoption data to support decisions.
  • Experience mentoring or informally leading colleagues.
