Senior Analytics Engineer
Contract | Inside IR35 | £650 per day - 6 Months
The Opportunity
Our client, a leading software company, is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join its established data team. You'll play a key role in delivering scalable, high-quality data products that support analytics, reporting, and business decision-making across the organisation.
Working within a modern cloud data environment, you'll build trusted datasets, optimise data models, and enable stakeholders to gain meaningful insights from data. You'll own defined technical deliverables, translate business requirements into implementation plans, and deliver robust analytical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain analytical data models and transformation pipelines.
- Build clean, tested, documented, and scalable datasets for reporting and analytics.
- Develop and optimise complex SQL transformations.
- Gather, clarify, and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Develop and maintain Looker models, explores, and dashboards.
- Implement data quality controls, testing frameworks, and monitoring processes.
- Optimise data pipelines, warehouse performance, and reporting layers.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure source data supports downstream requirements.
- Manage delivery blockers and communicate progress to stakeholders.
- Support adoption and enhancement of BI and analytics capabilities.
- Contribute to AI-driven initiatives through data and automation technologies.

Essential Skills & Experience
- 6+ years' experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, BI Engineering, or similar.
- Advanced SQL skills with strong optimisation and troubleshooting experience.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing and data modelling principles.
- Experience designing and maintaining end-to-end data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses, particularly Snowflake.
- Strong knowledge of ELT/ETL methodologies.
- Experience implementing testing and data quality practices.
- Ability to independently deliver technical solutions from requirements to implementation.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with Looker, including LookML and semantic modelling.
- Experience using the Looker API for automation and integrations.
- Knowledge of workflow orchestration and DAG-based dependency management.
- Python development experience, particularly for automation and integrations.
- Experience working within a software or technology environment.
- Exposure to AI technologies and practical business applications.
- Knowledge of version control and collaborative development practices.

Ideal Candidate
The successful consultant will combine strong analytics engineering expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills. They will be comfortable engaging with business users to clarify requirements, define solutions, plan delivery, resolve blockers, and communicate progress throughout the project lifecycle.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Excellent SQL proficiency.
- Strong Snowflake knowledge.
- Experience with end-to-end pipeline design.
- Hands-on Looker expertise.
- AI exposure within a professional environment.
- Testing and performance optimisation experience.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to own and deliver defined technical outcomes.
