About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join our Data team and help us turn messy, ambiguous business questions into clear, decision-grade insights. This isn't a build-the-perfect-pipeline role, it's a figure-out-what's-actually-going-on role.
You'll work in a highly supportive, cross-functional team of subject matter experts, working directly with stakeholders across the business who come to you with real, unresolved questions rather than fully specified requirements. Your job is to work out what they're really asking, dig into data that wasn't necessarily designed to answer it, decide what's signal and what's noise, and come back with a clear, defensible answer, including "we don't know yet, here's why."

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
To give a flavour of the kind of problem you'd own:
- Someone might ask you to track how a newly launched product is being used, and whether it's had any effect on surgery volumes compared to the version it replaced.
There's no ready-made report for a question like this. You'd need to work out what data actually exists to describe usage and volume before and after the change, decide what counts as a real effect versus normal variation, and come back with an answer reliable enough to act on, whether that feeds into product, commercial, or engineering decisions.
This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 1 day per week in our Cambridge office.
Responsibilities
- Take ambiguous, open-ended business questions from stakeholders across the business, and turn them into clear, well-evidenced answers.
- Explore unfamiliar or imperfect datasets to figure out what's actually there, and sanity-check your own findings before you report them.
- Decide what's signal and what's noise, and be honest about uncertainty rather than forcing a clean answer that isn't there.
- Communicate findings clearly to non-technical audiences, translating analysis into a story stakeholders can act on.
- Use SQL and Python to explore data directly, without depending on someone else to build the query for you.
- Turn an answer into something people actually use to get their work done, a clean spreadsheet, a simple dashboard, a repeatable view, a notebook, not just a one-off finding in a doc or a Teams message.
We’d expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the data teams remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Is genuinely comfortable with ambiguity, you'd rather ask "what decision is this for?" than start writing SQL immediately.
- Has strong SQL and Python skills, and the general analytical fluency (statistics, whatever else you reach for) to explore an unfamiliar dataset without hand-holding.
- Has a track record of taking "can you look into X?" through to a real answer that changed a decision.
- Can smell when data doesn't make sense, and digs until they know why, rather than reporting a number they don't trust.
- Isn't afraid to chase down the subject-matter expert who knows where a number actually comes from, what it really measures, and where it quietly breaks, rather than taking a column name at face value.
- Communicates clearly and honestly with non-technical stakeholders, including the caveats and what they're not sure of.
- Is comfortable building the end-user-facing output as well as doing the analysis, a clean spreadsheet, a simple dashboard, whatever the audience will actually pick up and use to do their job, not just a query result.
- Is familiar with modern analytics tools (Databricks, Snowflake, Power BI, or similar), enough to knock together a decent view when it's useful; Power BI experience is a bonus, but this isn't a gate, we'd rather hire sharp judgement and strong SQL/Python than platform experience alone.
- Is comfortable using AI-assisted analysis tools to work faster.
