Senior Android Engineer | EV Charging | London (Hybrid) - CROSS PLATFORM (Chance to work with KMP/ iOS)

Build the app that powers Britain's switch to electric....

Millions of UK drivers have nowhere to charge at home. This company is changing that, rolling out thousands of public chargers on streets, in car parks, at retail parks and at pubs, in partnership with councils across the country. All of it runs on 100% renewable energy.

Every one of those chargers connects to the app you'll build!

The role

You'll be the Android leaning specialist in a two-person mobile team, working side by side with a senior iOS engineer. The app is part of an in-house charge point management platform, built from the ground up. That means you won't just be wiring screens to someone else's API. Your code talks to real hardware on real streets, and if something breaks, a driver is stood next to a charger waiting on your code.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

They are moving cross platform meaning you'll be working with KMP to build iOS apps as well.

What's coming next:

  • Plug and charge. Drivers plug in, the vehicle is recognised and payment happens automatically, with no app interaction at all.
  • Charger reservations. Drivers can book a charger before they arrive.
  • New payment methods and new hardware types, as the network expands into new towns and cities.
  • Five to ten large features written into contracts with local authorities, so they will ship and real communities will rely on them.

What you'll bring

  • Strong commercial experience with native Android, Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • KMP
  • Ownership of features from architecture through to the Play Store.
  • Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs. The backend is FastAPI and Docker, and familiarity with it is a bonus.
  • Some exposure to Swift and iOS is preferred
  • An interest in work where software meets physical hardware.

Why this one stands out

  • Impact you can see. You'll pass your own work on the street, and every charger installed is a car off petrol.
  • A small team doing big things. The tech team is about 16 people, split into a driver-side squad and a platform squad. Engineers here have grown from individual contributors into squad leads within a year.
  • Backed for the long haul. The company has major infrastructure investors behind it and multi-million-pound council contracts already signed.
  • A cross-functional culture. Engineering, product, design, operations and support work in one London office.
  • A sensible way of working. Hybrid, roughly two days a week in the London office, and normal hours.

Package:

Up to £80k + bonus, pension, private medical, dental and critical illness cover, a car benefit scheme, 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, and a learning budget.
