Job Description
Purpose of the Role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

- OR for an individual contributor, they will be a subject matter expert within own discipline and will guide technical direction. They will lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions.
- Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management on functional and cross functional areas of impact and alignment.
- Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.

- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organisation functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
- Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
- Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.

- Seek out, build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.

Join us as a Senior Android Engineer for Identity Services at Barclays, where you will develop sophisticated native Android authentication and identity features that enable secure, frictionless experiences for millions of customers using our mobile banking app.
You'll leverage cutting-edge Android technologies including biometric authentication, Android Keystore, and modern Kotlin features, leveraging AI-assisted development practices to enhance productivity and code quality, while collaborating with backend engineers, security experts, and UX designers to deliver world-class mobile identity solutions.

Requirements
To be successful in this role you should have:
- Deep Android development experience with expert knowledge of Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and modern Android architecture components
- Solid understanding of Identity and Access Management concepts, authentication protocols (OAuth2, OIDC), and integration with IAM backend services via Android SDKs and REST APIs
- Proficiency in AI-assisted development tools to enhance Android development productivity, code quality, and debugging efficiency
- Experience with Android development best practices including MVVM/Clean Architecture, Dagger/Hilt dependency injection, coroutines, Flow, and comprehensive testing (JUnit, Espresso, MockK)
- Experience building authentication and identity features on Android including biometric authentication (fingerprint, face recognition), Android Keystore, SafetyNet, and secure credential storage
- Expertise in secure Android development including ProGuard/R8, root detection, secure communication (certificate pinning), and mobile application security best practices
Desirable Skills
- Experience integrating with Ping Identity SDK to interface with IAM platforms on Android, including implementing custom authentication journeys
- Experience with Android CI/CD pipelines, Google Play deployment, and staged rollout strategies with feature flags
- Knowledge of FIDO2/WebAuthn, passkeys, and implementing passwordless authentication on Android
- Background in performance optimization, memory profiling, and troubleshooting complex Android issues
- Familiarity with financial services mobile applications and understanding of PCI compliance, data protection regulations, and security requirements for banking apps

Location
This role will be based out of our Knutsford or London office with flexible hybrid working arrangements.
