Senior Android Engineer
💰 £400/day (Inside IR35)
📍 London/Bristol (2 days pw onsite)
📅 1 year Contract
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Android Engineer to join a Consumer Servicing and Engagement team within a major financial services environment. This is a hands-on mobile engineering role focused on designing, developing and maintaining secure, scalable and high-performance Android applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Kotlin, Flutter, Android Studio, Jetpack Compose and Material Design, alongside experience building modern Android user interfaces, integrating APIs and delivering production-ready mobile applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain Android mobile applications using Kotlin and Flutter.
- Build modern, responsive user interfaces using Jetpack Compose and Material Design.
- Develop and maintain Android components including Activities, Fragments, Services, Broadcast Receivers and Content Providers.
- Apply architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVI, MVC and Clean Architecture.
- Integrate RESTful APIs, GraphQL services and third-party platforms.
- Implement push notifications, background services and application lifecycle management.
- Optimise application performance, responsiveness, memory management and stability.
- Debug and resolve application issues across different Android versions and devices.
- Develop automated unit and UI tests using JUnit and Espresso.
- Build reusable Android components and contribute to shared mobile libraries.
- Participate in code reviews and maintain engineering standards.
- Collaborate with designers, backend developers and product teams to deliver secure, production-ready applications.
- Support application builds, testing and deployment processes.

Essential Skills
- 8+ years' software/mobile engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on Kotlin development.
- Strong Flutter development experience.
- Expertise in Android Studio and Jetpack Compose.
- Experience with Material Design and modern Android UI development.
- Strong knowledge of core Android components:
- Activities and Fragments
- Services and Broadcast Receivers
- Content Providers
- Experience with MVVM, MVI, MVC or Clean Architecture.
- Strong REST API, GraphQL, JSON/XML integration experience.
- Experience with push notifications, background processing and Android lifecycle management.
- Strong debugging, performance optimisation and memory management skills.
- Experience with JUnit and Espresso for unit/UI testing.
- Version control using Git, GitHub or GitLab.
- Strong communication and collaborative engineering skills.
