My client, a leading multi-strategy hedge fund, is seeking a senior Application Support Engineer to join their growing technology function in London.

The successful candidate will be a founding member of a newly formed application support team, working alongside one other to build the function from the ground up. This is a broad, hands-on role supporting front office and operations applications - largely internally developed, with some third-party systems - while helping to establish the best practices, logging standards, incident management processes and SLAs that will underpin the team long term.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years' experience supporting applications in a trading environment, with genuine front office exposure and a strong working knowledge of the trade lifecycle and the products being supported. Candidates must be able to speak confidently to how a trade works, investigate PnL, risk and STP/booking issues, and hold their own in conversations with traders and developers alike.

Candidates should have solid SQL skills, the ability to read code and suggest small changes, and a proven track record working to defined SLAs, response times and escalation policies. Experience across L2 and L3 support, monitoring, alerting and automation is essential, as is a genuine interest in improving supportability rather than simply clearing tickets.
