Summary

This position is responsible for the engineering and design content of projects for all assigned accounts. They will act as the primary liaison with customers for the resolution of technical matters and the development of products for customer projects by interpreting specifications and design requirements and developing those into an engineered solution. They will assist/instruct Designers with the checking of assembly drawings for accuracy of design intent and application-specific information and will assist Application Engineers with advanced analysis techniques when required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze product designs utilizing Dover Precision Components (DPC) tools and practices, interpret results, and determine the optimum solution to the customers’ problem. Prepare technical information for new projects to customers’ specifications.
  • Develop close working relationships with key customers’ technical contacts, ensuring that business opportunities are recognized and responded to appropriately at an early stage.
  • Significant customer interaction with respect to the engineering and management of projects, pre and post contract, for assigned accounts.
  • Support the development of advanced analysis techniques (FEA, CFD, etc…) and perform as required.
  • Support other Applications Engineers on said techniques and/or coordinate 3rd party resources.
  • Support the New Product Development team in the creation of analytical methods for new products and product enhancements and document standard work processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Interpret designs, assist/instruct Designers, perform all engineering calculations, examine specifications, expedite, and process engineering changes.
  • Accountable for the successful completion of engineering projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals.
  • Participating in client/contractor meetings and resolving client/engineering and management project issues.
  • Ensure effective liaison within the Engineering group to build and maintain consistently high engineering standards and to drive relevant product development.
  • Support engineering process development and design for manufacturability efforts through specific assignments as directed by Engineering Management.
  • Lead training seminars at customer and/or internal sites as needed and be able to fine-tune the training to the specific needs of the audience.

  • Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) plus 7 years work experience in an engineered product environment (preferably in fluid film bearings, dampers, and/or seals used in high-speed rotating equipment such as turbines/pumps/compressors/generators/motors or gearboxes) or reciprocating compressors.
  • Strong understanding of Engineering Principles and design practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to create ideas and develop solutions - Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Very strong communication skills – Ability to interface with customers.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD & strong computer skills.
  • Must be familiar with the impact of the manufacturing process on the key factors that control the form, fit, and function of a bearing and/or compressor.
