Senior Applications Engineer
Location: Abingdon, Oxford, UK

About the Role
This is a critical bridge role connecting cutting-edge semiconductor technology with real-world applications.
As a Senior Applications Engineer, you’ll: ✔ Own the voice of the customer—translate feedback to Engineering, R&D, and beyond to drive continuous improvement. ✔ Lead application projects that enhance performance, reliability, and user experience. ✔ Work directly with customers and end-users across the globe (~50% travel).
Key Responsibilities (A typical day might include…)
- Hands-on execution:
- Lead customer demos, characterisation work, and technical evaluations
- Support onsite applications training and tailored troubleshooting

Technical expertise:
- Present clear technical findings to both customers and internal teams
- Troubleshoot complex, multi-disciplinary challenges across:
- Mechanics
- Optics
- Electronics
- Software
- Algorithms

Strategic contribution:
- Collaborate with R&D to ensure solutions align with real-world needs
- Drive product development initiatives that increase user trust and satisfaction
- Maintain and calibrate application lab equipment
Requirements & Nice to Haves
Essential:
- 5+ years of professional experience in the semiconductor industry
- Hands-on track record with:
- Technical support and applications engineering for metrology equipment
- Managing customer demands and technical customisation
- Diagnosing complex issues across multi-disciplinary domains
- Strong technical communication skills (written and verbal)
Nice to Have:
- Technical familiarity with:
- Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
- Optical systems (lasers, fibre optics)
- Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
- Electromechanical systems
- Understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes
- Experience in product marketing or customer-facing technical storytelling

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering, or a related field (Equivalent experience accepted—contact us to discuss)
