Senior Solutions Architect – Email & Collaboration Security
Location: London, UK
Why This Role Exists
The Email & Collaboration Security (ECS) product line addresses some of the most critical challenges in enterprise security:
- AI-augmented threats
- Sprawling collaboration surfaces
- Multi-cloud complexity
- Upward momentum with threat detection and response
This architecture is not a greenfield project—it carries 20 years of product history, legacy integrations, and operational constraints. The right candidate must:
- Understand product heritage and future directions
- Bridge gaps between product management, engineering, and architecture leadership
- Drive cohesive technical direction that empowers agile, high-quality development
Mimecast is an AI-first organisation. This is not grade-A fluff—it’s an expectation. The right candidate:
- Uses AI tools daily for design, documentation, prototyping, research, and more
- Understands where AI accelerates decisions (and where it introduces risk)
- Can architect with AI components—raging on LLMs, agent boundaries, prompt/data contract stability
- Leaves everyday familiarity with AI tooling behind
The ECS Domain
Key area expertise includes:
- Email threat detection & prevention
- Collaboration security
- DMARC analysis
- Data platform & observability
- Incident analysis & response
- End-user application integration
- Internal operations enablement
What You Will Do
Solve at the Problem Level, Not Downstream
- Lead problem discovery with PMs, UX, and engineering
- Craft clear business/UX-minded outcomes before design confinement
- Push back on solutions that ignore real customer constraints
Own Durable Integration Contracts
- Treat APIs, events, data schemas as first-class product artefacts
- Ensure integration-locks between teams and across time
- Advocate fairness on schema evolution, interface stability

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Build the Architecture Context
- Align to Automated Data Records (ADRs), service patterns, non-functional requirements
- Seek solutions for AI integration with rigor (limits to LLMs, trusted agents, prompt fluency)
Enforce Governance Without Hampering Agility
- Trim recursion—remove unnecessary complexity
- Push back surprisingly on platform rules clashing with ECS
- Partner with Chief Architect to achieve aligned decisions
Cost vs. Outcome
- Sizing costs must align with actual security outcomes
- Opt for metrics (e.g. per mailbox or per incident)
- Order cloud spend awareness over bare solution scale
Communicate at Every Level
- Pen stakes-clarifying decision records (engineering scope)
- Articulate strategic solutions (product & commercial)
- Use whiteboards to build decisions, not just visualization
What You Will Bring
Architectural & Development Experience
- 10+ years building SaaS systems, 3 years+ in roles like Solutions Architect or Principal Engineer
- Breadth over depth—broader architectural lenses than hyper-specialism
- Cloud-native fluency: AWS, Kafka, micro-services, high-throughput event systems
- Cross-functional engagement: collaborating with PM, UX designers
Thoughtful Approach to Complex Systems
- Legacy systems as currency, not clutter—realistic shaping of decades-to-old algorithms
- Cognitive rigor—files must be easier to understand than you found them
Self-Direction & Strategic Hunt
- Self-apply transformation to underlying problems before mandate
- Operational on principles without micromanagement
- Articulate tangled dots to gain clarity
