3 months Contract with a Local Authority

Umbrella - £31.89 per hour - Umbrella

Job Purpose

As a Senior Area Facilities Officer, you will support the delivery of Facilities Management services across Southwark Council's operational property portfolio. You will manage and oversee building-related facilities services, compliance, maintenance activities, service contracts, and operational standards to ensure council buildings remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Manage and support Facilities Managers across a portfolio of operational buildings.
  • Act as the intelligent client for Facilities Management services.
  • Ensure buildings are inspected, audited, and maintained in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Monitor building compliance, condition, safety, and maintenance standards.
  • Respond to emergency and urgent property-related issues.
  • Specify, commission, and oversee repair, maintenance, and improvement works.
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Manage customer and client relationships across council departments.
  • Support the delivery of site-based facilities management services.
  • Monitor and manage budgets of up to £250,000.
  • Produce and analyse performance and financial information.
  • Liaise with Building Surveyors, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, and MEP Engineers.
  • Ensure Health & Safety, statutory compliance, and council policies are followed.
  • Support reactive maintenance, minor projects, and ongoing facilities operations.
  • Ensure operational buildings provide a safe and secure environment for staff and visitors.
  • Support service improvement initiatives and business planning activities.

Essential Experience Required

  • Previous Facilities Management experience.
  • Experience managing operational buildings and property portfolios.
  • Experience overseeing maintenance, repairs, and facilities contracts.
  • Experience monitoring building compliance and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Experience managing contractors and service providers.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets and expenditure.
  • Experience developing and managing Service Level Agreements.
  • Experience working within Local Government, Public Sector, Corporate Facilities Management, or a similar environment.
  • Experience managing customer relationships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience producing management information and performance reports.
  • Strong knowledge of building operations, compliance, and property management.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • Relevant Facilities Management, Property Management, Building Management, or Estates experience.
  • Right to Work in the UK.

Additional Information to Note

  • Working hours: 36 hours per week.
  • Online interview.

  • Experience managing large operational property portfolios is highly desirable.
