National Grid is hiring a Senior Asset & Display Engineer - You will be working with the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system which is critical to the safe, secure and economic operation of the England and Wales electricity transmission system, used both within our control centres and by our field engineers.
This position is based from our Warwick office.
Job Purpose
The Asset & Display Engineer is responsible for maintaining the National Grid Electricity Transmission SCADA system, involving maintenance of data within the SCADA system, and ensuring synchronisation of identifiers to enable interfaces to other systems.
Primary duties include asset database management, network modelling, and display build, along with the coordination/implementation of system changes in accordance with National Grid Electricity Transmissions Digital Commissioning methodologies.
The role also supports the delivery of change projects, assisting in the specification, development and testing of new and changing requirements for how the business utilises the SCADA system, or asset data derived from the SCADA system.
What You'll Do
- Deliver ET SCADA asset databases, network modelling and display changes in conjunction with changes to other systems across NGET to allow NGET to meet its legal and regulatory obligations.
- Support Change Authority Forum (CAF) and Area of Responsibility (AOR) management.
- Support Policy and process updates.
- Manage the resolution of real-time asset databases, network model and display issues, working with control room staff, ET Operations, and IT to ensure that the SCADA system is operational, with state estimation and analysis tools producing reliable results.
- Maintenance of real-time calculations supporting the operation of the electricity transmission system.
- Facilitate and manage Emulation of telemetry for system testing both internally and in conjunction with ET Operations and 3rd parties.
- Process data validity checks to ensure system alignment for SCADA interfaces, liaising with other system owners to resolve data misalignment where required.
- Continuous training and trainer duties on SCADA asset databases, network model and displays.
- Primary interface with the National Electricity System Operator (NESO) for co-ordination of asset database and system change in accordance with the STC and other stakeholders as required.
- Work with the SCADA replacement team to ensure future SCADA system support capability and processes are fully defined and implemented.
- Support the ET SCADA team internal and external interface changes, to ensure functional delivery of the new system, including data quality assessment, cleanse, enhancement, and resolution, taking internal and external stakeholders into account.
- Support Connections and Commissioning teams with technical issues associated with ET SCADA database, display and interface change plan ensuring that all work is delivered on time and in full.
- Ensure the performance, reliability and availability of the ET SCADA system meets agreed service levels and by working with ESO, IT and other stakeholders to resolve problems and support the resolution of reliability or performance issues.
- Ensure that the ET SCADA team has a reliable and tested business continuity plan in place that meets NGETs requirements.
- Support performance management for colleagues by actively accumulating experience and gaining insights from those responsible in senior leadership positions.

About You
- Experienced in database management, data migrations.
- Experience with hierarchical data sets, ideally regarding asset hierarchies in a utility network.
- Experience in working with IEC 101 & GI74 protocols & associated data sets is beneficial.
- Experience in working with ICCP is beneficial.
- Data quality assessment, cleansing and enhancement.
- Knowledge on Master Data Management and secure data handling/change management methodologies.
- Asset management.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £56,000 – £65,000 dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive
- 26 days holiday, plus eight statutory days, an option to buy extra holiday days, and the option to holiday swap up to 3 bank holiday days.
