About The Role
Insurance, Risk and Regulatory – Senior Associate.
The Opportunity
Our rapidly growing Insurance, Risk and Regulatory team is looking for an experienced Senior Associate to join us in London.
It’s an exciting time to join HCR as we are one of the UK’s fastest growing law firms, driven by increasing client demand and a reputation for delivering outstanding client service. This success has been reflected in The Legal 500 rankings, with strong results throughout England and Wales.
Based in the iconic Willis building in the heart of London’s insurance market, our IRR team has grown significantly and now comprises 16 specialist lawyers. We’ve been recognised as a finalist in the British Insurance Awards for Best Newcomer to the Insurance industry, our partners are ranked in the Legal 500 and the team continues to attract industry recognition for it’s thought leadership and specialist expertise.
We act for major insurers and policyholders across a broad range of complex and high-profile matters, providing advice that spans litigation, regulatory investigations, crisis management and risk mitigation.
The Team
Our work covers the defence of both pre-action and litigation civil claims involving personal injury and property damage, as well as regulatory investigations and prosecutions involving organisations and individuals.
This includes:
- Employer’s liability and Public Liability claims
- Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigations and prosecutions.
- Police and CQC investigations
- Coroner’s inquests
- Policy coverage disputes and interpretation issues.
- Crisis and risk management support for policy holders.
The work ranges from fast track claims through to multi-million pound, multi-party litigation, often involving complex legal, commercial and reputational considerations.
The Role
You’ll play an important role within a growing and ambitious team, working closely with partners on complex and high value matters while developing your own practice.
Your workload will include:
- Managing your own caseload of EL/PL claims.
- Assisting partners on complex litigation, regulatory and health & safety matters.
- Advising on regulatory investigations, enforcement action and prosecutions.
- Supporting clients through coroner’s inquests and crisis situations.
- Handling policy coverage and indemnity disputes.
- Building strong relationships with insurer and policyholder clients.
- Collaborating with colleagues across the wider firm to develop practical and commercially focused advice.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their experience beyond traditional personal injury litigation and develop expertise across regulatory, risk and insurance related work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
