Senior Associate / Associate Director – Architecture

Location: Surrey
Salary: circa £70,000 – £80,000 DOE
Job Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Associate / Associate Director Architect to join an established architectural practice in Surrey.

This is a senior role for an Architect who combines strong project delivery and leadership skills with commercial awareness, client management, and a genuine interest in helping to grow a practice.

The successful candidate will lead projects from concept through to completion, manage multidisciplinary teams and client relationships, and take responsibility for programmes, resources, budgets, and commercial performance.

The role would suit an experienced Senior Associate, Associate Director, or senior Project Architect looking to take the next step in their career, with the potential for longer-term progression into a Partner-level leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural projects from concept through to completion.
  • Take responsibility for project programmes, deadlines, budgets, resources, and delivery.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external consultants.
  • Develop and maintain strong client and consultant relationships.
  • Oversee design, planning, and technical delivery.
  • Monitor project fees, invoicing, cash flow, and financial performance.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and development to architectural teams.
  • Support recruitment, resource planning, and team development.
  • Contribute to bids, tenders, and business development activity.
  • Identify and develop new client and project opportunities.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and strategic development of the practice.
  • Support appropriate health & safety and professional standards across projects and the studio.

About You

We are looking for an ARB Registered Architect with a recognised UK architectural qualification and significant post-qualification experience within UK practice.

You will ideally have:

  • A strong track record of successful project delivery.
  • Experience managing programmes, budgets, resources, and project teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including fees, invoicing, and project financial management.
  • Experience in people management, mentoring, and team development.
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to business development and winning work.
  • A proactive, commercially aware, and collaborative approach.
  • Good knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.

Sector experience is particularly important. We are specifically interested in Architects with experience in healthcare and/or life sciences, including candidates who have worked across related specialist sectors. Candidates whose experience is predominantly residential are unlikely to be suitable for this opportunity.
