Banking & Finance Lawyer

Location: Birmingham or London

Role: Full-Time, Hybrid

About the Team

A highly regarded International Legal500 law firm is seeking a talented Banking & Finance Lawyer to join its established and growing team. The team advises on a broad range of UK and international mid-market financing transactions across sectors including renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, housing, financial services, private equity, technology, healthcare, retail, and aerospace. The practice covers a wide variety of matters, including acquisition finance, corporate lending, asset and receivables finance, project finance, derivatives, and debt capital markets.

Working as part of an international, sector-focused practice, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across multiple legal disciplines and jurisdictions to deliver commercially focused solutions to clients. The team also works closely with specialist restructuring, insolvency, and pensions lawyers, providing exposure to both performing and distressed lending matters. The firm places significant emphasis on developing its people, offering early client exposure, business development support, and a comprehensive training programme.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

This is a non-contentious general Banking & Finance role, covering one or ideally several of the areas outlined above. Working directly with the Banking & Finance Partners, you will become a key member of a close-knit and collaborative team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting for banks, borrowers, and private equity houses on mid-market and investment-grade banking matters, including syndicated and bilateral transactions.
  • Drafting and negotiating senior and mezzanine loan facilities, security, intercreditor, and ancillary documentation.
  • Preparing facility documentation and advising on leveraged acquisition finance transactions.
  • Advising on corporate lending transactions for both lenders and borrowers.
  • Drafting and advising on asset-backed and receivables finance transactions.
  • Drafting and negotiating project finance documentation.
  • Advising on cross-border transactions, including managing overseas counsel and negotiating legal opinions.
  • Advising on ISDA and other hedging and credit support documentation.
  • Drafting and negotiating documentation in connection with structuring matters.
  • Advising on general banking matters.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across areas including corporate, real estate, pensions, and construction.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Be a qualified solicitor in a recognised Banking & Finance practice.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the commercial issues involved in finance transactions.
  • Have experience running high-value transactions with minimal partner supervision.
  • Be confident negotiating key transaction documents on behalf of clients.
  • Be self-motivated, proactive, and collaborative, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to build confidence and strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in business development and client relationship management.
  • Have experience establishing and developing relationships with existing and prospective clients.
