Job Title

We are seeking a technically strong and commercially minded Senior Associate or Managing Associate to join our corporate team. You’ll work on a broad range of matters including mid-market M&A, private equity and venture capital transactions, restructurings, and general corporate advisory work, supporting a diverse client base from FTSE 100 companies to high-growth businesses. This is a great opportunity to take on high-quality work in a collaborative environment, with clear scope for career development, which could include the opportunity to progress to partnership for high-performing individuals.

The role is a full-time, permanent role. As a firm, we work flexibly, and remote/hybrid working is available, with employees strongly encouraged to be in the office at least 2 days per week.

The Team

Our award-winning corporate team offers quality and strength in depth unusual outside the City. The leading independent directories consistently rank us in the top tier. We are committed to an active, intelligent growth strategy, for the team and the whole firm, and it is with this in mind that we welcome applications for technically strong, commercially minded, and ambitious lawyers.

The corporate team is one of the top corporate practices in the South East and consists of eleven partners with a team of 40 in total supported by at least two dedicated knowledge lawyers. The work of the team is high-quality and diverse and covers a broad range of corporate transactional and advisory matters, including:

  • Private M&A (both buy side and sell side)
  • Private equity (principally management advisory and portfolio work)
  • Venture capital and other equity fundraisings
  • Shareholders’ agreements and corporate joint ventures
  • Corporate rationalisations / reorganisations
  • General corporate advisory / partnership law
  • Inward investment and cross-border
  • Share incentives (working closely with our excellent employment law and tax teams)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have drive and an enthusiasm for a broad diet of corporate work, but experience in all of the above areas is not required. Most team members have areas of greater specialization, and there are opportunities to become a “go-to” lawyer in areas or industry sectors of particular interest. The successful candidate will be a strong team player, with excellent interpersonal skills, who is capable of acting as a commercially focused business adviser to our clients.

You might have spent time working in a City or a leading national/regional practice or be ready for a step-up in terms of your exposure to more varied and challenging work in a supportive environment focused on bringing out the best in you. First-class support and learning and development opportunities are provided, and high levels of responsibility and progression are offered for those ready and able to take it on, including the opportunity for progression to partnership.

Essential Requirements:

  • Excellent technical ability, drafting skills, and attention to detail;
  • Business development skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate concisely and with confidence;
  • Highly motivated, responsive, and reliable;
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, leading and developing junior lawyers within the team and building strong working relationships with colleagues in other teams;
  • Able to manage a varied workload with a number of ongoing matters at any time;
  • Dedicated to delivering client service to the highest standards and the skill to effectively manage and nurture client relationships; and
  • Commercial awareness and strong academics.
