Senior Associate – Defendant Casualty: EL/PL
Birmingham | £65,000 - £75,000+ | 4–8 PQE
I’m working with a leading national law firm that is looking to recruit a Senior Associate into its established Defendant Casualty team in Birmingham.
The firm is ideally looking for someone around 4–8 years' PQE with a strong background in defendant EL/PL and Multi-Track litigation.
The team acts for a number of major insurer clients across complex Employers' Liability and Public Liability claims, with a particular focus on Multi-Track litigation and construction-related accidents.
The Role
You’ll manage your own caseload of complex defendant casualty matters, including:
- Employers' Liability and Public Liability claims
- Predominantly Multi-Track litigation
- Construction-site accidents, including falls from height and scaffolding accidents
- High-value injury claims, with matters extending into six and seven figures
- Claims involving multiple defendants and complex liability issues
- Cases involving principal contractors, subcontractors and other parties within the construction chain
- Part 20 claims, contribution proceedings and recoveries

You’ll have responsibility for matters from instruction through to conclusion, working closely with insurer clients and their claims handlers throughout.
As the Senior Associate within the team, the role goes beyond simply running a caseload. You’ll work closely with the Partners and take on wider responsibilities including supervising and supporting junior lawyers, delivering training and attending client claims review meetings.
What They’re Looking For
Ideally, you’ll be a Defendant Personal Injury Solicitor around 4–8 years' PQE, although relevant experience will be more important than exact PQE.
You’ll need a strong grounding in EL/PL and Multi-Track litigation, with the confidence to manage complex matters independently.

Experience of construction-related claims would be particularly attractive, including dealing with multiple defendants, principal contractors and subcontractors, relevant construction regulations and Part 20 proceedings/recoveries.
Previous experience working directly with major insurers and claims handlers would also be beneficial.
