Senior Associate – Family Law (Divorce & Financial Remedies)
An established and growing law firm is seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior Associate to join its highly regarded Family Law team in either Newcastle or Teesside.
This is an excellent opportunity for a talented family lawyer to play a key role within a busy and successful department, advising clients on a broad range of family law matters, with a particular focus on complex financial remedy cases, including high-value and high-net-worth matters.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent client relationship skills, leadership capability, and a proactive approach to business development. This senior position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the continued growth and success of the team.
Reporting to the Head of Family Law, the successful candidate will:
- Manage a varied caseload of complex private children and financial remedy matters, including:
- International child relocation disputes
- Modern family matters, including surrogacy, adoption and donor-related arrangements
- Domestic abuse cases, including allegations of physical, psychological, sexual and financial abuse
- High-net-worth divorce proceedings
- Valuation and division of business interests, including multi-jurisdictional assets
- Pension-related financial claims
- Trust-related family disputes
- Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements
- Take responsibility for family law matters from initial instruction through to resolution, ensuring exceptional standards of client service and legal advice.
- Represent clients in family law proceedings where appropriate, including preparing court documentation, developing case strategy and working closely with counsel on complex or contested matters.
- Support the development of junior lawyers and support staff through mentoring, supervision and knowledge sharing, helping to maintain a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
- Contribute to the growth of the department through networking, relationship building and business development activities, fostering strong connections with clients, professional referrers and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all professional, regulatory and best practice requirements.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or equivalent legal professional with substantial post-qualification experience in family law.
- A strong track record of advising on complex financial remedy and high-net-worth family law matters.
- Experience of supervising, mentoring or developing legal teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and client management skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of family law and current legal developments.
- Commercial awareness and an active interest in business development.
- A commitment to delivering outstanding client care while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Experience of mediation, collaborative law or other forms of non-court dispute resolution would be advantageous.
