ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an experienced Senior Automatic Door Engineer to join our Automation Team in a field-based role covering the installation, service and repair of automatic door systems. You’ll ideally be based along the M5 corridor, making most of our sites easily accessible to you.
The role covers automatic sliding and swing doors for commercial and industrial clients, including local council contracts. The role combines hands-on engineering with the opportunity to survey and quote work (training can be provided). As a senior member of a small team, you will also provide technical support and guidance to other engineers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installing, maintaining, servicing and repairing automatic sliding and swing door systems for commercial and industrial clients
- Working across automatic door systems including Record, Label, Dorma and Gilgen
- Servicing and maintaining aluminium doors and associated lock furniture
- Maintaining a variety of access control systems (full training can be provided)
- Surveying sites, pricing up work, and quoting small works (full training can be provided)
- Diagnosing and fault-finding on electrical and mechanical door control systems
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and attending reactive callouts
- Ensuring all work meets current safety standards and regulations, including BS EN 16005
- Acting as a point of contact for team queries and technical escalations, and mentoring junior engineers
- Attending site as second engineer on more complex jobs
- Liaising directly with clients and managing your own workload and van stock efficiently
- Developing into surveying and quoting major works and larger projects over time
- Travelling to customer sites across the county, including occasional travel further afield

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Technical and practical skills
- Proven experience as an automatic door engineer, ideally at senior or lead level (essential)
- Hands-on experience of automatic door systems such as Record, Label, Dorma or Gilgen (essential)
- Experience servicing aluminium doors and associated lock furniture (essential)
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills (essential)
- Sound working knowledge of automatic door safety standards and regulations, including BS EN 16005 (essential)
- Confident surveying jobs and pricing up work (desirable)
- Experience working on local council or public sector contracts (desirable)
- Experience of access control systems (desirable)

- Good communication skills and confident working directly with clients
- Able to work remotely and manage own workload, diary and van stock across a wide territory
- Supportive of colleagues, with a willingness to guide and mentor less experienced engineers
- Methodical approach to fault-finding, with a strong commitment to safe working practices
- Willing to develop knowledge across our wider fire, security and automation services
QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant industry certification, for example CEDA or FIT trained (desirable)
- Recognised electrical or mechanical qualification (desirable)
REQUIREMENTS
- All applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK, proof of eligibility will be required prior to starting employment (essential)
- This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check, you must be able to satisfy the requirements for clearance (essential)
- Valid UK driving licence (essential)
- Ideally located on the M5 corridor, within approximately 100 miles of Gloucester (desirable)
- Comfortable working remotely across a wide territory (desirable)
