What You'll Do...

As a Automation and Control Systems Engineer at Agratas, you will be responsible for designing, development, implementation and maintaining automation systems and control strategies to optimize manufacturing processes, improve efficiency, and ensure high-quality production of battery cells. This role requires a deep understanding of automation technologies, control systems, and manufacturing processes within the battery industry.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process automation, PLCs, IPC, VFD, SCADA, HMI, Vision Systems, Robotics, communication protocols, MES, and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) integration. You will manage large-scale automation projects and to drive improvements in manufacturing operations.

Agratas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. We will design, develop and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries for the mobility and energy sectors. We are a scale-up business with a start-up mentality and the backing of a well-established parent company. The UK business headquarters is in the Midlands and we are currently building a battery manufacturing facility in Bridgwater, Somerset.


The team you'll join...

The Process Engineering team is a dynamic group working across a range of areas such as electrode, cell assembly, FA&T (formation, ageing and testing), control and automation, manufacturing systems, digital manufacturing, process safety and logistics engineering. Being a relatively new team, you’ll play a critical part in creating processes and help building large scale manufacturing lines from the ground up.

What You'll Bring...

  • Experience in Automation & Control Systems engineering within battery or similar high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA systems, HMI, IPC, DCS, and other control systems in a manufacturing context.
  • Knowledge of advanced automation technologies such as robotics, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), and machine vision systems in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in programming and testing PLC (Siemens/Omron/Beckhoff/Allen Bradley).
  • Knowledge of Industrial Cybersecurity, control network architecture, and communication protocols (Ethernet, ProfiBus, ProfiNet, Modbus).
  • Experience in project management, coordination, and excellent customer relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with Vision Control Systems for quality inspection, process monitoring, and defect detection, including system setup, integration, and optimization.
