Senior Automation QA Engineer (Playwright/TypeScript)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Automation QA Engineer (Playwright/TypeScript) based in United Kingdom.
As a Senior Automation QA Engineer, you will play a key role in strengthening software quality and reliability across a portfolio of innovative, technology-driven products. You will design, develop, and maintain robust end-to-end and API test automation solutions using TypeScript and Playwright. A major focus will be modernizing existing testing infrastructure by migrating legacy Java-based tests to a more scalable and maintainable framework. You will also contribute to performance engineering through load testing, system analysis, and optimization in collaboration with development teams. Working in a fully remote, collaborative environment, you will influence testing architecture, promote clean code practices, and share expertise through code reviews and mentoring. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership, solve complex quality challenges, and help build efficient, high-performing systems.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, maintain, and stabilize automated end-to-end (E2E) and API tests using TypeScript and Playwright.
- Lead the migration of legacy automated tests from Java and Selenide to a modern Playwright and TypeScript-based testing framework.
- Build and continuously improve test automation architecture, including fixtures, browser contexts, test data management, state handling, and parallel execution capabilities.
- Develop and optimize load-testing scenarios using k6, collaborating with software developers to analyze system performance and identify bottlenecks.
- Evaluate performance metrics, investigate scalability limitations, and recommend improvements to enhance application responsiveness and reliability.
- Apply appropriate test design techniques and testing strategies to ensure meaningful coverage across UI, API, and performance testing layers.
- Write clean, maintainable, reliable, and concurrency-safe code that supports stable automated test execution.
- Conduct code reviews, share technical knowledge, and promote consistent engineering and quality assurance standards across the team.
- Collaborate closely with product teams, developers, and other QA engineers to integrate quality practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous integration and delivery processes by improving automated testing workflows and integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
- Explore modern tools, including AI-powered coding assistants, to streamline testing activities and reduce repetitive tasks.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
