Job Opportunity: Senior Automation Specialist
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Automation Specialist based in the United Kingdom.
This is a hands-on automation role focused on transforming complex operational processes through AI and intelligent workflow design.
You will work directly with operational leaders to identify repetitive, high-value manual work and turn it into reliable automation.
The role combines AI agents, reasoning systems, APIs, workflow platforms, and software engineering to solve real business problems at scale.
You will own automation initiatives from discovery and architecture through production deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Success will be measured by tangible operational impact, particularly the number of manual hours removed and the reliability of the resulting workflows.
You will operate in a fast-moving, remote-first environment where experimentation is encouraged but quality, testing, and responsible deployment remain essential.
It is an opportunity to shape how AI-powered automation becomes embedded into the operational infrastructure of a growing international business.
Accountabilities
- Design and maintain intelligent automation and reasoning layers for operational workflows, enabling tasks to be routed and actioned based on business logic rather than simply moving data between systems.
- Translate complex manual processes into scalable automation in close partnership with operational and domain experts.
- Build AI agents using tools such as Claude, Codex, or equivalent technologies, incorporating structured evaluations, real-world testing, and manual quality assurance.
- Define business rules, data-quality controls, validation gates, and safety mechanisms that determine when an automated workflow should escalate a task to a human.
- Connect internal systems and third-party services through APIs, webhooks, n8n, and comparable workflow automation technologies.
- Navigate complex integration environments and connect systems that were not originally designed to work together.
- Build and maintain frontend applications and automation components using TypeScript and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Deploy and maintain solutions through GitHub and GitHub Actions, using AWS services and appropriate storage technologies such as S3 and databases.
- Own automation projects end to end, from discovery and process mapping through architecture, implementation, production deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Work directly with operational leaders across areas such as payments, debt, tendering, partner activation, and other business functions to identify the highest-impact automation opportunities.
- Continuously reprioritize initiatives according to operational impact and focus efforts where automation can deliver the greatest measurable benefit.
- Measure success through tangible efficiency improvements, including manual hours eliminated each week.
- Monitor production workflows, take ownership of errors, and continuously improve automations based on real-world operational feedback.
- Stay current with developments in AI models, agent frameworks, prompting techniques, and automation tooling, bringing relevant innovations into the organization.
- Act as an internal product owner for operational efficiency, balancing speed of delivery with reliability, testing, and maintainability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Practical experience building AI agents using Claude, Codex, or similar AI development tools as part of real operational workflows rather than simple chatbot prompting.
- Strong systems-thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex, loosely defined human processes into structured automation architectures.
- Experience shipping automation solutions within an engineering environment rather than relying solely on standalone third-party tools or prototypes.
- Strong testing discipline, including the use of evaluations, real-world data, manual QA, and measurable quality thresholds before deploying workflows into production.
- Bias toward practical execution, with the ability to deliver valuable automation quickly while maintaining appropriate reliability and quality standards.

- Active interest in the rapidly evolving AI tooling ecosystem and an ability to identify and apply useful new technologies.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote-first environment while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
