About the Role
Setar Capital is seeking an experienced Senior Aviation Underwriter / Operations Lead to support one of its portfolio investments in the aviation insurance/reinsurance sector. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned aviation insurance/reinsurance professional to play a key leadership role within a growing business. The successful candidate will combine deep technical underwriting expertise with operational leadership, helping to build, manage, and optimize underwriting and operations.
The position is fully remote and may be engaged as a full-time contractor, depending on the candidate. Applicants may be based anywhere globally but must be able to travel to the United States as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support aviation underwriting operations
- Review and assess aviation insurance and reinsurance risks
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and best practices
- Work closely with executive leadership on underwriting strategy and operational initiatives
- Oversee underwriting workflows and operational processes
- Support business growth while maintaining underwriting discipline
- Collaborate with brokers, carriers, reinsurers, and other industry stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and scalability
- Mentor and support underwriting team members as the organization grows

Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of aviation insurance experience
- Significant experience in aviation underwriting
- Experience leading or managing underwriting operations
- Strong understanding of aviation insurance markets and underwriting principles
- Experience working with international aviation risks and clients
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Ability to travel to the United States when required

Preferred Qualifications
- Global aviation insurance and reinsurance experience
- Experience building or scaling underwriting operations
- Experience working with MGAs, insurers, or aviation-focused specialty insurance or reinsurance businesses
- Strong commercial and strategic mindset
- Bilingual: Spanish and English
- Bachelors Degree
