Senior AWS DevOps Engineer - 6 months - London/hybrid -urgent (needs to start within 2 weeks max.)
Required Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with core AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, ELB/ALB, Auto Scaling, Route 53, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
- Advanced experience with infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
- Strong CI/CD expertise with Jenkins or comparable pipeline platforms, including automated quality gates and deployment controls.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or a similar language.
- Practical experience with Git-based source control, branching strategies, and collaborative code-review practices.
- Experience with Linux administration and working knowledge of Windows-based cloud workloads.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes-based platforms such as Amazon EKS, or AWS-native container services such as ECS.
- Good understanding of cloud security, identity and access management, network segmentation, encryption, and secure configuration.
- Experience implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident-response capabilities for cloud platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Personally design, provision, configure, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure AWS environments; validate implementations against enterprise standards and AWS Well-Architected principles.
- Write, test, review, and maintain reusable infrastructure-as-code modules using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation, including state management, versioning, and automated validation.
- Build, enhance, and support CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline, or equivalent.
- Automate application build, test, deployment, configuration, and release processes across multiple environments.
- Design and operate containerised platforms using Docker, Amazon ECS, and/or Amazon EKS, including deployment patterns, scaling, and platform upgrades.
- Implement AWS networking and security controls, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, IAM roles and policies, encryption, secrets management, and multi-account governance.
- Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability using Amazon CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and suitable enterprise tooling.
- Improve platform reliability through capacity planning, backup, disaster recovery, patching, vulnerability remediation, and operational readiness practices.
- Support application and infrastructure migration from on-premises or hybrid environments to AWS, including assessment, landing-zone preparation, cutover, and post-migration optimisation.
- Independently investigate complex infrastructure, deployment, performance, security, and availability issues by analysing logs, metrics, configurations, and code; complete root-cause analysis, implement the fix, and drive preventive actions through to closure.
- Partner with developers, architects, security teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into practical cloud solutions.
- Create and maintain high-level designs, detailed technical documentation, runbooks, standards, and migration records.
- Provide technical guidance, code and design reviews, mentoring, and continuous-improvement leadership across the engineering team.
- Evaluate platform usage and cost, recommend right-sizing and optimisation opportunities, and support effective cloud governance.

- Experience designing hybrid-cloud solutions and integrating AWS with on-premises data centres.
- Knowledge of configuration-management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
- Experience with microservices, platform engineering, PaaS environments, and service integration.
- Understanding of SRE practices, service-level objectives, error budgets, and resilience engineering.
- Experience supporting cloud assessments, architecture reviews, audits, RFP responses, or pre-sales solutioning.
- AWS certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional.
- Exposure to other cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud is advantageous.
