Role: Senior Platform Engineer
Location: Remote first occasional travel to Manchester Office
Contract Type: 12 Month FTC
Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 per annum pro rata

About the Role
In this position as a Senior AWS Platform Engineer, you will be instrumental in guiding and building technical solutions. Key responsibilities include writing Terraform scripts, designing architectural solutions, and addressing complex platform challenges. You will set the technical direction, validate team outputs, and ensure the quality of architecture and deliverables. The role involves leading technical efforts, mentoring engineers, maintaining client-facing relationships, and contributing to the enhancement of delivery approaches.

About You
The ideal candidate has experience leading technical deliveries for complex AWS engagements, managing architectures from start to finish, and handling client relationships within demanding programmes. Skills include Terraform scripting, pipeline construction, and resolving intricate platform issues. You can facilitate client workshops, lead incident investigations, and create post-incident reports. Familiarity with AI development tools is required to assist in integrating them into team workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design and construct AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and platform components
- Oversee technical architecture for engagements, create Architecture Decision Records, and make key design decisions
- Review and approve infrastructure and code before deployment
- Identify technical risks, define mitigation strategies, and communicate with the delivery lead
- Facilitate client-facing technical workshops and architecture reviews
- Set technical standards and mentor junior engineers
- Lead incident investigations, focusing on root cause identification and stakeholder communication
- Participate in technical scoping for pre-sales
- Identify opportunities to improve delivery blueprints and collaborate on implementing improvements

Skills & Experience
- Applicants should have a proven track record of leading substantial deliveries.
- Technical Leadership: Leading complex, multi-service AWS engagements
- Architecture: Managing architecture components, documentation, and securing client approval
- Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with Terraform or AWS CDK
- CI/CD & Automation: Designing and enhancing pipelines and automation systems
- Security: Understanding AWS security patterns and compliance frameworks
- Code Review: Reviewing and providing feedback on code
- Incident Response: Leading investigations and stakeholder communication
- Client Communication: Conducting workshops and managing expectations
- Mentorship: Providing feedback for junior engineer development
- Commercial Awareness: Understanding the impact of technical decisions on costs
Qualifications
- Required: AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, CKA, or similar professional-level certification
- Preferred but not required: Experience in pre-sales scoping, Architecture Decision Records, agentic AI tooling, managed services environments, or an additional professional-level certification in a practice area.
