Senior Backend Engineer - Hyperliquid Ecosystem
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer - Hyperliquid ecosystem based in United Kingdom.

You will own critical backend systems powering real-time trading, data pipelines, APIs, and high-volume databases.
Your work will directly support products used by hundreds of thousands of traders and designed to scale to millions of users.
You’ll solve challenging problems around latency, reliability, data consistency, and performance in a fast-moving environment.
The role offers significant ownership, with the opportunity to shape architecture and take products from 0 to 1.
You’ll collaborate closely with frontend and mobile engineers in a team that values technical excellence and product craftsmanship.
This is a fully remote position open across Europe or the USA, with required overlap with EST working hours.
Accountabilities
- Own key architecture and technical decisions across backend systems, ensuring they remain scalable, reliable, and performant.
- Build and operate real-time data pipelines handling order book updates, trades, and market events.
- Design, develop, and maintain API infrastructure, including GraphQL and WebSockets, for web and mobile clients.
- Work extensively with PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, and similar technologies to support high-volume trading data.
- Optimize queries, caching strategies, schemas, and data access patterns as usage and data volumes grow.
- Instrument services with appropriate metrics, monitoring, and alerting, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Investigate and resolve latency, memory, performance, and reliability issues under demanding production workloads.
- Partner with frontend and mobile engineers to deliver analytical and real-time data through robust APIs.
- Contribute to a fast-paced 0-to-1 development environment where engineers have meaningful ownership over what they build.

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, ideally with strong production experience in TypeScript.
- Proven experience designing and operating real-time systems using WebSockets, event streaming, pub/sub, or similar technologies.
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and Redis; experience with ClickHouse or another columnar database is highly valued.
- Demonstrated experience operating highly available services at significant scale.
- Strong understanding of trading concepts, including orders, fills, order books, positions, and execution.
- Experience designing APIs for latency-sensitive, high-throughput applications and clients.
- Excellent debugging and performance optimization skills, including experience diagnosing slow queries, memory leaks, and production bottlenecks.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems, and integration patterns.
- Familiarity with EVM-based systems, DeFi, or on-chain data is advantageous.
- Experience with Kafka or comparable streaming technologies is a plus.
- Background in trading platforms, fintech, low-latency applications, or other performance-critical environments is a plus.
- Strong ownership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive in an ambiguous and rapidly evolving environment.
