About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team at Turnitin. In this role, you will be instrumental in strengthening our scalable backend platform, focusing on Java development and serverless architectures. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain robust backend services that power our award-winning education platform. While the primary emphasis will be on backend development, there will be opportunities to contribute to frontend components as needed, ensuring seamless integration across our technology stack. The ideal candidate will have a passion for building scalable, reliable, and efficient systems, with a keen interest in innovative cloud-native solutions and a collaborative mindset to work with teams across different regions, including Europe and the USA.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in backend development, particularly with Java and serverless architectures.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with hands-on experience in deploying and managing serverless services.
- Proficiency with RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and monitoring solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Implement serverless solutions to optimize resource utilization and reduce operational overhead.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and frontend teams to deliver integrated features aligned with business goals.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to uphold coding standards and best practices.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to enhance platform stability.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, applying innovative solutions to improve our platform.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, including automation and deployment workflows.
