How will you impact?

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer capable of leading the design, development, and support of mission-critical banking services. This role places a strong emphasis on software architecture, cloud engineering, and operational excellence. You will be working on scalable, customer-facing platforms in a dynamic financial services environment.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical banking services and applications
  • Lead architectural decisions for distributed systems and microservices
  • Build and support cloud-native applications in multi-cloud environments
  • Develop robust RESTful APIs and implement asynchronous processing solutions
  • Ensure operational excellence through comprehensive testing strategies and production support
  • Participate in incident management and system reliability initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple locations

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive hands-on backend engineering experience
  • Expert proficiency in Java development
  • Strong knowledge of JVM technologies and open-source frameworks
  • Proven experience building and supporting cloud-native applications
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture and microservices
  • Demonstrated experience developing RESTful APIs
  • Hands-on experience with messaging frameworks and asynchronous processing
  • Experience working with relational databases and data architecture patterns
  • Strong production support experience, including incident management
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipelines and automation
  • Proven expertise in end-to-end testing practices (unit, component, integration, and performance testing)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Kotlin in addition to Java
  • Experience in banking, card issuing, and payment processing, including card network and gateway integrations
  • Experience with scalable, customer-facing platforms in financial services

Location:

Candidates based in UK/London: Hybrid model, 2-3 days per week in Canary Wharf, London.
