How will you impact?
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer capable of leading the design, development, and support of mission-critical banking services. This role places a strong emphasis on software architecture, cloud engineering, and operational excellence. You will be working on scalable, customer-facing platforms in a dynamic financial services environment.

Your key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical banking services and applications
- Lead architectural decisions for distributed systems and microservices
- Build and support cloud-native applications in multi-cloud environments
- Develop robust RESTful APIs and implement asynchronous processing solutions
- Ensure operational excellence through comprehensive testing strategies and production support
- Participate in incident management and system reliability initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple locations
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive hands-on backend engineering experience
- Expert proficiency in Java development
- Strong knowledge of JVM technologies and open-source frameworks
- Proven experience building and supporting cloud-native applications
- Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture and microservices
- Demonstrated experience developing RESTful APIs
- Hands-on experience with messaging frameworks and asynchronous processing
- Experience working with relational databases and data architecture patterns
- Strong production support experience, including incident management
- Expertise in CI/CD pipelines and automation
- Proven expertise in end-to-end testing practices (unit, component, integration, and performance testing)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Kotlin in addition to Java
- Experience in banking, card issuing, and payment processing, including card network and gateway integrations
- Experience with scalable, customer-facing platforms in financial services

Location:
Candidates based in UK/London: Hybrid model, 2-3 days per week in Canary Wharf, London.
