Senior Backend Engineer (PHP/Python) – Data – Remote - £600 per day Outside IR35
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join an established engineering team working on a business-critical Data platform.
This is a backend-focused role sitting at the intersection of software engineering and data. You’ll be responsible for building and improving the systems that collect, process and expose commercial and revenue performance data across the organisation.
While the role is data-heavy, this is not a Data Engineering position. We’re looking for a strong Backend Engineer with commercial experience in PHP, Python and PostgreSQL, who is comfortable working with data-intensive systems, integrations and APIs.
The work has genuine visibility and business impact – the data and systems you build will be used directly to support commercial reporting and drive business decisions.
Technology
Core:
- PHP
- Python
- PostgreSQL
Additional:
- AWS
- Airflow
- Snowflake
- APIs & Integrations
The Project
You’ll contribute to the continued development of the organisation’s Data platform, helping streamline how commercial and revenue data is collected, processed and presented to users.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
