Are you looking to build scalable backend systems that power the next generation of FinTech and AI-enabled products?
EMNET is partnering with a high-growth, Series B-funded AI FinTech to hire an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer as the business enters its next stage of growth. You will help design and develop scalable, high-performance backend systems while contributing to the infrastructure and services behind a growing suite of AI-enabled financial products.
This is a senior engineering position with significant ownership across system design, architecture, and production delivery. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Data, and AI teams to turn complex requirements into reliable, scalable products.
The business offers a highly competitive salary alongside bonus, benefits, and stock options (ISO). The role is remote, with a preference for UK-based candidates, although strong candidates across the EU will also be considered.
THE ROLE
- Design and develop scalable backend platforms, services, and APIs
- Build production-grade backend services supporting AI-enabled and data-intensive products
- Contribute to architectural decisions across distributed and cloud-native systems
- Develop APIs and services that integrate AI/ML capabilities into customer-facing products and workflows
- Work closely with AI and Data teams to productionise AI-powered functionality
- Build secure, reliable, and maintainable systems capable of handling complex financial data and workloads
- Take ownership of complex technical problems from initial design through to production deployment
- Improve system observability, scalability, resilience, and performance
- Contribute to engineering strategy, standards, and best practices
- Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Data, and AI teams
- Provide technical guidance and contribute to the development of other engineers

REQUIREMENTS
- Significant experience as a Backend Software Engineer working in production environments
- Strong knowledge of backend system design, architecture, and distributed systems
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Node.js, or Java
- Strong cloud infrastructure experience across AWS, GCP, or Azure, with AWS preferred
- Strong understanding of APIs, databases, and service-oriented architecture
- Experience designing systems for scalability, reliability, and operational excellence
- Experience working with data-intensive applications or complex production systems
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate independently and take ownership of significant technical initiatives
DESIRABLE
- Experience building backend infrastructure for AI/ML-enabled products
- Exposure to LLMs, generative AI, or agentic applications
- Experience integrating AI models or third-party AI services into production systems
- Familiarity with embeddings, vector databases, retrieval/RAG architectures, or model-serving infrastructure
- Experience within FinTech, WealthTech, or financial technology
- Experience working with financial, investment, or transactional data
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation
- Experience within a high-growth or startup environment
- Previous experience mentoring or supporting more junior engineers

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
We're interested in speaking with highly capable backend engineers who combine strong software engineering expertise with an interest in how AI is changing modern financial products. We're particularly interested in engineers who understand how to take complex, data-intensive, or AI-enabled functionality and build the reliable backend systems required to operate it at scale.
You don't necessarily need to meet every requirement. Engineers who can demonstrate strong backend engineering capability and experience solving complex technical problems are encouraged to apply.
