The Role

This AI-native fintech is building digital teammates for investment decision makers, serving top-tier financial institutions with a platform that accelerates M&A research and analysis. Fresh off a historic $75M Series A and rapid user growth, the company is scaling its engineering team in London to meet surging demand. The Senior Backend Engineer role is critical to delivering robust, secure, and high-performance infrastructure as the product expands across global finance.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain scalable, secure backend systems for a high-stakes financial services environment.
  • Work with Python (FastAPI), PostgreSQL, Redis, and Docker to ship production infrastructure.
  • Operate distributed systems on Azure (AWS/GCP experience also considered).
  • Lead technical design reviews and mentor engineers in a fast-paced, high-growth context.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with daily standups, direct communication, and full ownership of your area.

Who We're Looking For

7+ years (up to :12) of backend engineering experience, with expert-level Python (FastAPI preferred), deep PostgreSQL knowledge, and hands-on cloud experience (Azure ideal; AWS/GCP acceptable). A first-class Bachelor's (ideally with a Master's) in Computer Science or a top technical discipline from a leading university (Oxbridge, Imperial, Durham, Edinburgh, or Ivy League) is required. Candidates must have built and maintained scalable, secure backend systems in high-stakes environments and be willing to work onsite five days a week in London.

Required:

  • Shipped and maintained backend platforms at top-tier fintechs, AI startups, or scale-ups.
  • Academic pedigree: Oxbridge, Imperial, or Ivy League (first-class/Master's).
  • Direct experience with Azure-based distributed systems.
  • Led technical design reviews or mentored teams in high-growth contexts.
  • Proven track record building secure, compliant systems for sensitive data.
  • Demonstrated founder/owner mentality in prior roles.

Core Stack: Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker.
