Senior Backend Software Engineer (Cloud Monetization Platform) - United Kingdom

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer (Cloud Monetization Platform) based in United Kingdom.

Join a high-impact engineering team building the commercial infrastructure behind a modern AI cloud platform.

You will work on backend systems that turn complex cloud usage—including compute, storage, networking, reservations, contracts, and payments—into reliable commercial workflows.

The role combines distributed systems engineering, scalable service design, and challenging problems around consistency, correctness, and performance.

You will help create clean abstractions for evolving business models while shaping a platform that is being built and scaled from the ground up.

Working alongside experienced engineers in an international environment, you will have meaningful ownership over technical decisions and system architecture.

The position offers the opportunity to contribute to infrastructure that supports the rapidly expanding global AI economy.

This is an ideal role for a senior backend engineer who enjoys complex technical challenges, autonomy, and building robust systems at scale.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that form the commercial and monetization foundation of a cloud platform.
  • Build reliable distributed workflows where correctness, consistency, resilience, and performance are critical.
  • Develop clean and maintainable abstractions that support rapidly evolving pricing, billing, contracts, and commercial models.
  • Contribute to the architecture and implementation of microservices and distributed systems operating at significant scale.
  • Design and improve asynchronous workflows, ensuring reliable processing across interconnected services and business-critical operations.
  • Work with technologies including Python, gRPC, Temporal, YDB, Kafka-like messaging, Kubernetes, and a broad ecosystem of microservices.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Take ownership of technical decisions, proactively identify areas for improvement, and contribute to the long-term evolution of the platform.
  • Help establish engineering practices that support reliability, scalability, maintainability, and rapid product development.
  • Contribute to a fast-moving engineering environment focused on solving challenging infrastructure and cloud monetization problems.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
