Senior Backend Software Engineer / Developer (Python) London / WFH

Role Overview
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you'll own the orchestration engine that controls scheduling, execution, state, retries, concurrency and cancellation, using Python, FastAPI and AWS in a high velocity production environment. You'll design for unpredictable workloads, solving challenges around capacity, back pressure and isolation, while building the AI native layer that will underpin the next generation of the product.

You'll own your infrastructure end-to-end, writing Terraform, monitoring what you ship and resolving issues in production. Working across the full development lifecycle, you'll take features from idea through to production, collaborate directly with customers to solve complex real-world problems and use your technical insight to influence the product roadmap. As part of a small, ambitious engineering team, you'll also have a genuine opportunity to shape engineering standards, culture and ways of working.
Location / WFH
You'll join colleagues in the London office (close to Waterloo) with flexibility to work from home twice a week.
About you
- You have advanced backend Python coding skills, including FastAPI
- You have a good understanding of system architecture, design and scalability
- You have experience of working on distributed systems
- You're familiar with other technology in the stack including: AWS, IaC using Terraform, Docker, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, CI/CD, GitHub actions, Blacksmith runners
- You're collaborative and pragmatic with great communication skills, keen to input into technical discussion and decision making
